During his tele-town hall last night, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) endorsed an "innovative" idea to address labor shortages: "coax" seniors to leave retirement and reenter the workforce so they can "earn a few extra bucks."

Of course this will happen if they get rid of Social Security.

(29,371 posts)...of course, he will have his cushy senate retirement to live on.

(53,544 posts)They do not receive 100% of their salary for their pension. Only federal judges do. The max is 80% and is based on years federal office or government.

(29,371 posts)...too shabby.
The creep is a multi-millionaire, so of course, he will turn it down, right?
LiberalFighter
(53,544 posts)Johnson will only have 12 years qualifying him for $20,880 annually if he is defeated.
To receive $139,200 today he would need to be in office for another 62 years.

(2,926 posts)And extra points for the Bernie avatar. Boy, would I like to hear Bernie's response to Jagoff Johnson's "innovative" idea.
And how does one "coax" seniors back to work? Threaten to cut off their SS and Medicare?

(9,647 posts)Are not happy they have to pay people $15 to work, especially in the rural areas where all the kids leave when they can. So, gotta put the old people to work so the MAGAT can order his Big Mac. I imagine Covid also caused people to retire early and/or retired people to decide not to work if they can avoid it. God only knows what the effects of Long Covid has had on those areas as well.
The state legislature actually loosened the child labor laws too.

(4,616 posts)Who do you think is serving his Big Mac now during school hours? I ask that of everyone who pisses and moan that "working at McDonalds is a HS job not meant to be a real job". OK, who serves up your chicken nuggets on Wednesday at lunch time during the school year?

(9,647 posts)Apparently, there are no longer enough of those people. Maybe if the Republicans had not urged people not to wear masks, there would be enough people.

Those jobs with employers wanting to pay the least amount possible.
Of course, filling crummy jobs is hard.
I know there are specific disciplines desperate to hire, but that's not what Johnson is talking about.

Accused of not giving up the job sooner so someone could replace the boomer.
Now sought for those jobs to which the younger have said "shove-it".
