Could be people who have it recorded to watch in the AM, and didn't want to know outcome until they finished it/saw for themselves.

The article (and title) focused primarily on Serena’s career.

The west coast folks could have watched at 4 pm their time, or later if they recorded it. It’s even earlier now in Hawaii. Where does that argument end?

Posting a result minutes after a game or match is one thing. Posting an article from a major newspaper 14 hours later while many other outlets have issued articles about the match already, is not a spoiler.
