(42,289 posts)He was driving a purpler Peterbilt coss country for Burlington Motor Freight. One crazy SOB. We followed each other clear across the country. Other truckers on the CB tried to get him to sing, but he never would.

(11,419 posts)Since then he'll go be EII that will save a lot of money, as they won't have to change all the post boxes and other things with Elizabeth's initials. And anyway it's high time the Hanovers or whatever they're calling themselves these days apologized for their ancestors' treatment of the Anglo Saxons.
As an American with no ties to Britain (other than having visited several times), I don't really care one way or the other. I'm just sitting on the sidelines watching the media circus.

(348 posts)I predict he will opt to be known as George VII. George is one of his names.
The name Charles is not very lucky for English monarchs.

(10,104 posts)Same title as the Queen Mother, who was called Queen Elizabeth when her husband King George VI was living.

(8,178 posts)Something about changing out the first names once ascending to the throne.
I'm sure we'll hear or read it any minute now.

(10,104 posts)Of course the Queen used her real name
Her father, George VI, real name was Albert (Bertie)
His father, George V, was actually named George
His father, Edward VII, was another Albert. Queen Victoria, his mother, really wanted there to be a King Albert in honor of her beloved husband. She never got her wish.

(14,371 posts)Full name, Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor, which is quite a mouthful for anyone. He gets to choose by what name he will reign, and most people think he will stick with Charles and become King Charles III, but he could go by any of his other names. Likely not Philip, as that would be a reminder of Philip of Spain, who was the husband of Queen Mary I ("Bloody Mary"
and not very well liked to say the least. Arthur would be an interesting possibility, harkening back to legend and a Prince of Wales who was never king (Henry VIII's oldest son, who died young). George VII is another strong possibility; his grandfather, who he loved dearly as a young boy, was George VI. We'll have to wait and see.
There has never been a Queen Camilla. I suppose I could have got used to her if he'd been allowed to marry her in the first place, but I still can't stand her, even if she does make him happy. At least he had the sense to marry a pretty woman who produced handsome sons. I can't imagine what his and Camilla's kids would have looked like.
And I wish some decent hair stylist would get her hair out of her face! That hairstyle does less than nothing for her.

(14,371 posts)I'm allowed to say that, and allowed to say what I don't like about her. What I don't like most about her is that she didn't have the decency to stay away once Charles was married. Yes, I know he strayed, but she could have stayed away and said no at any time and she didn't. So if I think she's a horse-faced hussy I'll say so, Queen Consort or not.
