Amazing video of a Russian T-72 fleeing Ukrainian troops, discarding men and then crashing into a tree.

Drone footage captured the destruction of a Russian T-80BVM tank the other day. Eagle-eyed internet sleuths noticed something unusual when they zoomed in and slowed down the footage. In one of the lower videos, you can hear the Ukrainian voiceover: "That's how a Russian tankman becomes a spaceman."
Via Twitter:
Also, it looks like the commander is standing in the turret at the moment of the explosion. He's propelled upwards and lands on the building of the roof next to the tank several seconds later, which shows just how powerful the explosion was

(22,721 posts)If I hadn't known what to look for, I would never have noticed the guy going airborne in this video or the guys "abandoning tank" in the other one.
My hat is off to anyone who can look at these and tell what's going on without any help!

Of course they had bugged out days earlier so nobody with rank would be there to give orders....

(17,757 posts)If the news is to be believed, I suspect that the officers are very forgiving in the handling of their troops less they be fragged. Armies only work well when the troops are well trained, well supplied, well disciplined and well led, all of which seems to be lacking in the Russian Army. It is as if the Russian Army leaders thought that they invincible because of their heritage. They are not the Soviet Army of 1945, or perhaps even the Soviet Army of 1941. We may be close to seeing major routes and rebellions in the Russian troops. The may become like Popeye, "It is all I can stands, 'cause I can't stands no more."
There will be a day when the Russian people wake up and realize how much that they have been lied to, and take matters in their own hands. I don't have a problem with the Russian people, the ones I have known, and I have know a few, were quite lovable, it is the leadership that is holding them down. The Russian people are exactly where we would be if Trump was returned to office and went off on some testosterone driven interior or exterior crusade. Trump and Putin are cut from the same fabric, only Putin got the most of the brains and Trump got most of the shit.

@berlin_bridge
In a day full of good news this one made me laugh out loud: confirmed reports the Russians have been using helicopters to look for deserters. You know your wars on track when your air support is going after your own troops instead of the enemy.

Russians have a long history when it comes to hunting down deserters. Finding motivated soldiers to fight under crappy conditions has always been a problem in Russia...

(6,365 posts)media will ask TFG what he thinks of powerful Putin now. His idol is getting his ass kicked. All those Russian loving magats like Tucker look like fools. Biden and NATO countries have done a truly miraculous job exposing Russia as a paper tiger. Ok yea they have Nukes but at this point who knows if they will work. I hope Putin accidentally falls out of a 40 story building soon.

TFG: It's all a hoax and fake news! The lying liberal media is reporting fakely and posting fake videos all over the internet to make him look bad! He's really winning bigly, like no one's ever seen before, but fake news is trying to steal his victory by making it look like he's losing!

(114,650 posts)It looks like they're running back to where their supply lines are still intact. I'm sure they think they'll take their stuff back when they defeat the Ukrainians like state TV said they would. Yeah, sarcasm.
The problem with that strategy is that as the Ukrainians advance, they'll catch up to those supply lines, too, and destroy them.
I hope this is the beginning of the end.

As dodgy as Russian soldiers are, they still might have booby-trapped them before scampering back to mother Russia. I imagine Ukraine has an engineer corps. I'd want them to look "free" military vehicles over before driving them home.
