(21,816 posts)it at least would be more representative (theoretically), unless fingers are on the levers or Dark Money fucks it all up. Oh like Citizens United? That gets back to fingers on the levers. in this case the SCOTUS. And the Electoral College which precluded Gore and Clinton from becoming Pres. with more popular votes. Probably seemed like a good idea in 1789. And then there is court-stacking which is on steroids. Ripe for McConnell and Drumpf to withhold a Dem and get three hard-core questionable right wingers.
So yeah, lots of huge problems but if you want anything different, there is only one peaceful option. Vote and encourage elected officials to change the Rules so we can correct what is detrimental to fair and free elections.

(11,546 posts)What makes you feel that voting and encouraging officials to change things for the better has not been tried? And tried? And tried again? What did Einstein say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome?
Never mind, I am the wrong person to be talking about this. Being on the outside/bottom means the only thing you see above you are assholes.

(93,900 posts)Sometimes we have to give things up. Of course we can try to avoid this in the future by making changes we should have done decades ago regarding energy use and other things.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
