And the main position of said candidates seems to be the freaking opposite of those ideas and ideals, one tends to get disillusioned and disheartened. Especially when it keeps happening.

it at least would be more representative (theoretically), unless fingers are on the levers or Dark Money fucks it all up. Oh like Citizens United? That gets back to fingers on the levers. in this case the SCOTUS. And the Electoral College which precluded Gore and Clinton from becoming Pres. with more popular votes. Probably seemed like a good idea in 1789. And then there is court-stacking which is on steroids. Ripe for McConnell and Drumpf to withhold a Dem and get three hard-core questionable right wingers.
So yeah, lots of huge problems but if you want anything different, there is only one peaceful option. Vote and encourage elected officials to change the Rules so we can correct what is detrimental to fair and free elections.
