I'm leaning toward Famous Grouse and Topo Chico. It's a multicultural drink of blended Scotch whiskey and Mexican mineral water. Delicious and medicinal.

(25,415 posts)I really shouldn't drink being a type 1 diabetic. Alcohol causes low blood sugar believe it or not, your liver works overtime when you drink and are diabetic. But what the hell. If President Obama takes it, I am having one beer. Even if it is Bud Light Platinum. I blame that on my brother who brought the beer over here Halloween night.

(272 posts)I LOVE wine, but don't usually drink during the week. Tomorrow will be an exception. There's a real learning curve when it comes to mixing alcohol and insulin, but it's totally surmountable. Everyone is different in how they respond, but for me, I generally decrease my basal dose by a couple of units on wino nights. If I continue the next night, I may need to decrease it further. If you're really not a drinker, it may not be worth the trouble to figure it out, but I just want you to know that with type 1, where there's a will there's a way.
(Type 1 for 25 years).

(25,415 posts)I got diagnosed kind of late, at 29. I was pregnant with my second daughter and it never went away. Thought it was gestational diabetes at first. Lots of testing done after that.
I have had issues in the past but I think lowering the Lantus amount helps. I do that for when I go on a big hike or do any major physical activity. I have learned the hard way. Had a hypo incident on a big hike with my husband over the summer. But I always take food and glucose tablets with me everywhere I go. Even walking around a corn maze for an hour with my kids this October left me with blood sugar in the 50's.
Nice to talk to a fellow type 1 on DU!

I can't BELIEVE I won't be able to get regular updates. We can't even talk about it.
The first time these centers were used was 2010 and some didn't close out until 1am.

(40,416 posts)2 oz Bourbon (I like Old Taylor)
1 oz sweet Italian Vermouth
Dash of Angorastura bitters.
Stir with ice for a good half minute. Never shake!!
Put garnish into a martini glass and strain drink over the garnish.
Traditional garnish is a maraschino cherry (hopefully with a stem). Dirty Manhattan has a dash of maraschino juice before pouring.
Best to make them in batches in a small pitcher. Also, the colder, the better. Keep bourbon in freezer; keep vermouth in fridge.
Skäl!

(20,776 posts)My second choice is Asahi, but I will tell you why I chose Tsingtao.
First of all the bottle is smaller..

The Can of Asahi in the fridge looks like those cans you use to fill your car up with oil.. I bet there are at least two bottles worth of beer in there. Of course Asahi is meant to be shared...so no wonder its so big. I don't think I could handle that much beer, and putting it back in the fridge..it would only go flat. So.. Next time I have someone over.. it will be with Asahi..
and in the meantime, I will stick with the single bottle of Tsingtao.
