CNN completely making over morning show - Lemon Poppy and Kaitlin

CNN announces it will debut new morning show with Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/15/media/cnn-morning-show/index.html

The show will replace "New Day" and carry a new name, format, and set, CNN said.

“New Day" anchors John Berman and Brianna Keilar will continue to anchor their show until the new program debuts. They will then be assigned new anchor roles at the network, CNN said.

A CNN spokesperson said that the network will announce new programming that will replace Lemon's current show later this year.

Harlow, who currently co-anchors the 9am-11am hours and recently completed Yale's Master of Studies in Law degree program, described Lemon as one of her "closest friends for more than a decade" and said she was grateful for the opportunity.

and will never watch CNN again.

Too bad... they used to be the cable news network I turned to when there was actual "news" instead of intro to political news followed by a panel to endlessly discuss the "news".

Actual news requires reporters and cameras and investigation.

All the cable "news" channels think that interviewing the actual reporters or book writers is sort of like news.

2. When they show you who they are, believe them. Poppy Harlow was a rapist sympathiser at one point:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppy_Harlow

In 2013, while reporting on the conviction of two Steubenville, Ohio, high school football players for the rape of a 16-year-old, Harlow stated that it was "incredibly difficult, even for an outsider like me, to watch what happened as these two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believed their lives fell apart ... [Ma'lik Richmond] collapsed [and told his attorney,] 'My life is over. No one is going to want me now.'"

This apparent expression of sympathy for the rapists provoked widespread criticism. A petition requesting that CNN apologize on the air for sympathizing with the Steubenville rapists received over 250,000 signatures within two days of CNN's report.

Steubenville High School rape case

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steubenville_High_School_rape_case

The Steubenville High School rape occurred in Steubenville, Ohio on the night of August 11, 2012, when a high school girl, incapacitated by alcohol, was publicly and repeatedly sexually assaulted by her peers, several of whom documented the acts on social media. The victim was transported, undressed, photographed, and sexually assaulted. She was also penetrated vaginally by other students' fingers (digital penetration), an act defined as rape under Ohio law.

The callous attitude of the assailants was documented on Facebook, Twitter, text messages, and cell phone recordings of the acts. The crime and ensuing legal proceedings generated considerable controversy and galvanized a national conversation about rape and rape culture. Two students and high school football players, Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays, both 16 at the time of the crime, were convicted in juvenile court for the rape of a minor. Additionally, three other adults have been indicted for obstructing the investigation into the rape, while Steubenville's superintendent of schools was charged with hindering the investigation into a rape that took place earlier in 2012.

I never thought much of her. Just another talking head reading a teleprompter.

at all the same as condoning that person's actions or being "on his side." It's an ability and reaction that people are supposed to have.

Now, a pattern of expressions of sympathy with bad actors and their bad actions, such as we often see on Fox, would be an entirely different matter.

In depth and she clearly was able to report outside the normal stories of the day.

I didn’t get her move to the morning but I guess in TV land it’s a bigger spot. Frankly those are some odd EARLY hours. Like up at 3.

I love Don and would watch for him. I'm not that familiar with Poppy but I have shut Kaitlin off every time she appears. She does this duck lip sneer that I find just dismissive and annoying. I just have a gut level repulsion towards her. Maybe she just provokes a memory of those mean girls from high school, I don't know. But I'm not sure even Don will be able to make me tune in if she's on.

morning show with two co-anchors, though he says he's honored by it. A more expected honor for being highly popular and drawing large viewerships, as well as winning a slew of awards, would be being moved to 8 or 9 prime time.

Kaitlin Collins used to work for Tucker Carlson on his Daily Call site.

CNN now has both prize 9 and 10 spots to fill with new anchors.

Otoh, CNN is claiming to move to more news, and morning really needs a news show, not just first run of the political infotainment that'll follow all day. (Btw, this is not an expression of sympathy for CNN's furthering its development as MSNBC's (Comcast's) version of Fox.)

One hour of content is a lot easier than 2 or 3 hours or however long their morning show is on. Also, getting ready for a 10 pm show and wrapping up is much more conducive to have a more normal life. Hosting a 6am show probably means getting up at 3 - travel, hair/makeup, show prep - and that has to be grueling.

Like I said it probably considered a bigger deal and more money. I think you hit it on the head when you say Lemon will be deluded, maybe that’s Licht’s goal here.

Harlow's openly conservative, which can be fine in itself, even as one of a pair of brackets to contain Lemon's impact, but Collins is proven dirty. She worked for Tucker Carlson on his Daily Caller, churning out Carlson-appropriate stuff, first as an entertainment reporter and later as Carlson's WH correspondent. From there Zucker's been "laundering" her through lesser spots on CNN.

Her desperate and stupid Marine tweets might get her a move to primetime.

Won't help with the ratings, though.
