(476 posts)Get time off fr work, find somebody to watch kids, for couple of days. Friend, who works at pp, in MD says they are seeing lots of out of towner's, concerned about about the impact on Md residents trying to get abortions. And from what I am reading abortion by pill, way more painful than DC, with mild anesthesia

(90,790 posts)If so, he's got my vote already. Even before this, he had my vote.
He's definitely one to watch. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the rapid response! That part alone gets my vote, but there's so much more to him that also does.

(90,790 posts)I fear Harris would never win.
She wont be the first woman President. And if she were our nominee I WOULD vote for her and I would support her campaign. But I dont see broad-based ardent enthusiastic voter support for her.
And I would be very happy to be wrong! I worked hard for Hillary Clintons campaign. I STILL think she would have made a GREAT President.
Even now Im on the lookout for the next viable woman candidate. And Im eager for a First Gentleman! LOVE the sound of that!

(2,070 posts)African Americans especially AA woman. They have saved our majorities too many times to get this close and have us say "No, Give Me Gavin". I like the sound of Give Me Gavin. Reminds me of I Like Ike.
Personally I would elect a literal leech before anyone the other side puts up. I just think it should be VP Harris in 2028. I bet we will see President Biden start positioning her in the second half of his second term. The hand off will be glass smooth.
5 years ago I would stand ovating to First Gentleman.
Gender studies has let me towards First Partner. Government titles should be neutral.

(90,790 posts)Shell have to fight her way through primary season, which will be an excellent way to determine her viability as the eventual standard-bearer.
Im actually VERY interested to see how this plays out.
And theres another thing to consider:
Assume Biden wins a second term. Its certain VP Harris will be his running mate again. And then, since I think hes be the oldest serving President ever, would he make it through a second term? If not, Harris would become President, and then shed have the weight, power, and symbolism of the Presidency ON HER. And the power of incumbency when its assumed shed run for the top job in her own right, in 2028.

(2,070 posts)She still has to survive the primary. If she doesnt, it needs to be another woman of color. I am hoping we it isn't an overcrowded primary again.

(22,882 posts)Abortion is still legal there for now, but there's a 24 hour waiting period requiring 2 separate visits 24 hours apart. Also, Repugs are working on legislation to add more restrictions.

(10,439 posts)TEMECULA, Calif. (KABC) -- The city of Temecula in southwest Riverside county is known for tourism. From its sprawling vineyards, to casino gaming to hot-air balloon rides.
But it soon could become the first city in California to attempt to ban abortions, if one Temecula city council member gets her way.
"I know there are some who would question whether protecting our unborn is a state matter or a city issue," said city councilperson Jessica Alexander at Tuesday's council meeting. "This is our city, and what happens in our city is our responsibility."

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
