Ouch!
By Conover Kennard September 15, 2022
Texas Governor Greg Abbott earlier today used migrants as a political stunt, dropping them off near Vice President Kamala Harris's home. Florida Gov. Ron DeathSantis spent a whopping $12 million in taxpayer money to own the libs by chartering private planes and sending undocumented immigrants to Martha's Vineyard.
Residents at Martha's Vineyard, in turn, treated the migrants well, giving them food and shelter. And that's because they are human beings, not livestock. You're not supposed to treat fellow human beings like dirt just because they are from another country and they're seeking a better life.
So, the JFK Library gave Republican Governors a history lesson. Most of us know this bit of shameful history, but apparently, Republicans failed on that subject.
"To embarrass Northern liberals and humiliate Black people, southern White Citizens Councils started their so-called "Reverse Freedom Rides," giving Black people one-way tickets to northern cities with false promises of jobs, housing, and better lives," the tweet reads.

If they're capable of feeling shame, this would be the time for them to sit in the corner and think about that terrible thing they've done.

(27,742 posts)Desantis had a smarmy shitty boast about this too and paid shills in the audience to cheer his sorry ass on.

(36,927 posts)The motivations today are exactly the same. They are simply playing to their racist base and need to use increasingly overt racist messages to pander to them.

(7,334 posts)I just don't understand.
A lot of them escaped a dictator - now they want to be ruled by another in their new land.
My co-worker is a perfect example - escaped a Latin American dictatororship in the 1990's and moved to the US and is now a citizen, and he is full on Q stupid. Go figure.

(17,745 posts)I see them all the time supporting Abbott and calling out Beto for using a nickname. I do not understand how a nickname can be more important than kidnapping.

(22,870 posts)Haven't they ever heard of Willard "Mitt" Romney? Raphael "Ted" Cruz? Addison Mitchell "Mitch" McConnell? John Ellis "Jeb" Bush? And how about Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower?

(17,745 posts)The people to which I refer constantly call Beto Francis and yet completely ignore Raphael Cruz being Ted.
Pretty hypocritical, right? But they dont care as long as they feel they can slander Beto.

(13,560 posts)They dont care what happens to real people. Many of the migrants they have stolen from Te as and forcibly relocated will now miss their court dates because they have no way to get back to Texas for them. The federal government tracks where the migrants are sent so they can be returned for court dates.
Meanwhile almost every store or restaurant I pass has a sign in the window saying theyre hiring. We dont seem to have enough people to fill jobs, but Republicans choose to go a different route by forcing women to have more babies so they can fill those jobs in 20 years!
People like DeSantis and Abbott are evil. Unfortunately, thats exactly what the Republican Party leaders and voters want in their candidates.

(815 posts)How the RW media kept saying Biden and the Dems are socialists...and scared the shit out of folks who escaped from "socialist" countries like Cuba and others in central and south America.
They are experts at demonizing the opposition.

(2,301 posts)Chartered flights start at $15,000. You'd need a bigger plane, something capable of holding 25 people, so let's double it to $30,000. They're flying last minute, so let's up that to $50,000. But that's where they start, so let's double it again and say $100,000. We need two, so $200,000. He paid $12,000,000. As a taxpayer, I'd want to know, where are you shopping?

(8,663 posts)If any one of us had done this there would be FBI agents asking questions and carrying warrants regarding a range of violations.
While this may have been intended as a political stunt, one in atrocious bad taste as well as grossly inhumane, it was also a direct attack on federal law, federal authority, and individual civil rights.
Once more the leading zealots of GOP racism raise the specter of a terrible autocracy into view. They likewise define GOP goals and expectations in future elections. The silence of Republican Congress members and Senators is telling, as is the collective reaction of GOP Governors and state legislators.
Those who erased history intend to repeat it. May they suffer the same fate as their forebears.

(7,794 posts)Tell me. Is that a felony or what? I mean, if it's not, I'll never bring it up again. Hell, it may be like aiding and abetting insurrection. Perfectly legal and not prosecutable.
I'll just go back to stealing my neighbour's lawn mower and kicking the neighborhood kids as they walk by, Hard.
If lawlessness is the new norm I can adapt. Roll with the punches.......literally.

(8,257 posts)The consensus seems to be it doesn't qualify as human trafficking under current statues, but could potentially meet the legal definition of kidnapping.

..............
These events are horrible acts of cruelty, xenophobia and racism but also an amazing gift to us Democrats to use in campaign ads.

(98,420 posts)Well done.
It was beautiful watching the reactions and interactions of the Islanders and migrants as they were getting on the bus to leave this morning. Everyone on the street was hugging, kissing and waving. They were going off island to an army base where they had better facilities to take care of them all.
Well done, Islanders. Thank you for all the love, kindness and respect you gave to them all.
