OK my polling place has changed because

we were part of a redistricting after the last census and our representative changed from Boswell to Braley. And I learned today that we were on the auditor's "inactive" list of voters. Apparently, that problem arises from the fact that our local post office was one of the ones that were closed and our mailing address changed from a post office box number to our street address. The auditor had sent a card to everyone in the area and ours was returned. It did not get forwarded to us. I know others may very well be affected in this manner as well. The lady at the auditor's office said that presenting our driver's licenses should take care of the issue when we go to vote tomorrow.

The Obama campaign called after I had hung up with the auditor's office and I let them know about the combination of the effects of redistricting and the post office closure. Just an FYI if you are in such an area or have a similar set of circumstances. I got the Voters Hotline number from the campaign just in case.

And advice for everyone else in any state: if you haven't already, check the website of your local board of elections or auditor to make sure you are properly listed as registered and that your polling place hasn't changed. They change all the time, for many reasons, and you shouldn't be assuming that where you've always voted is where you are currently assigned.

I have spoken with the auditor's office this morning this morning. As I mentioned before, our polling place has changed.
