https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrat-wes-moore-opens-22-193445197.htmlDemocrat Wes Moore is leading Republican opponent Dan Cox by 22 points in the race to be Marylands next governor, according to a new poll released Monday.
About 53 percent of Marylanders would currently back Moore and 31 percent would vote for Cox, according to the survey from Goucher College, The Baltimore Banner and WYPR. Moore enjoys a similar lead among voters who list how favorably they view the candidates.
Underscoring the lead further, 69 percent of voters said they are set on this candidate, and only 28 percent said they could change their mind.
Mileah Kromer, the director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics at Goucher College, said Democrats are in a strong position to sweep the statewide contests this cycle in Maryland.
Moore is viewed favorably by a majority of state voters, and perceptions of his mix of progressive and moderate politics aligns with how many Maryland voters view themselves, Kromer said in a statement.
Moore is an author and former CEO of an anti-poverty nonprofit, and Cox is a representative in Marylands House of Delegates. The gubernatorial candidates are seeking to replace retiring Gov. Larry Hogan (R).

Are there any Maryland R House seats that look flippable in a blue wave election?

Hogan wasn't bad for a Republican, but Cox is an awful candidate. Hogan won't even endorse him.

(44,446 posts)6. Basically this says it all about Cox:

Cox is only getting 31% in his race for Governor.
In the race for US Senate in Maryland, Van Hollen leads Chris Chaffee 56% to 33%.
Chaffee is functionally illiterate. He has no campaign manager, no campaign fundraising apparatus, not even a campaign website. He has a Twitter account with just over 300 followers where he posts barely comprehensible messages mixed with odd conspiracy theories about weather control.
Basically, the Maryland GOP didn't feel like bothering to field a serious candidate for Senate, and Chaffee is basically a NPC (non-player character) of a candidate. The only reason anyone would bother to say they are voting for him is because he has an R behind his name and these Republicans vote red no matter what.
So that means 33% is the hard base for Republicans in Maryland.
Cox can't even manage to get the hard baseline for Republicans, and zero support for moderate and crossover voters, which is how Larry Hogan got elected twice.

(9,238 posts)7. Wes Moore is a good fit for Maryland.
Progressive, but not extreme. Military background. Well known in Maryland. Charismatic and being African American doesnt hurt a bit! I think hes got this!
