After a week in which the former president saw his bid to slow down a DOJ investigation into the theft of government documents with the appointment of a special master blow up in his face, and New York Attorney General Letitia James announce a plan to seek $250 million from the Trump family for real estates fraud, the Post is reporting that the former president is facing multiple obstacles to getting his incipient campaign off the ground.
"These and other setbacks for Trump come as at least a half-dozen additional legal efforts proceed against him and his allies committing him to months of legal wrangling as he seeks to raise his political profile for a possible 2024 bid while also increasing the prospect of becoming the first former U.S. president to face indictment after leaving office," writes the paper.
One obstacle beyond Trump's control are plans by a group of Democratic lawyers to keep him off the ballot if he does announce due to his connection to the Jan 6 insurrection.

(64,830 posts)I saw plenty of "Pelosi For Prison" signs a few years back, and the same for HRC. This was despite the fact there was zero evidence any crimes were committed & the opposite is true now.
Fighting fire with fire seems appropriate, because it's irrefutable that crimes have been committed by the Idiot King & his minions.

He doesn't care - Dem, Republican - out of his great love for America, he just wants them to succeed....

(327 posts)Neither President Biden nor Donnie are running in 2024. Biden will announce this some time early in 2023. Trump will never say anything because he wants to keep the grift going, but he'll either be in court, jail or the fairway of his golf club.

(2,944 posts)legal bills if he announced his intention to run for pres. Given the events of the past few days and what his legal costs are going to be and how we all know he doesn't want to pay these costs, this is a more likely reason for putting his announcement on "pause."

(16,268 posts)Unless "pause" means something different than I think it does, calling this a "pause" is...cute.
"Dead in the water" would be more accurate.

You know... the whole, idea that it'd be best for the country to let go of his political ambitions. He's got enough on his plate.
Don't imagine that will happen. He's never done anything that didn't involve self-interest.
(And yes, I'm aware he's not President)
