Kobach lays out plan to remove abortion rights in Kansas after failed amendment

https://www.kansas.com/news/politics-government/article266267436.html

Republican attorney general candidate Kris Kobach has unveiled a new strategy for removing abortion rights from the state constitution a month after Kansas voters affirmed those rights by a wide margin.

“This issue is not over,” Kobach said Friday at a Wichita Pachyderm Club campaign appearance. “The fight for life is going to continue.”

Kobach, former Kansas Secretary of State, is calling on the GOP-dominated Legislature to put forward another ballot question that would amend the state’s constitution. This time, it would not address abortion rights directly. Instead, it would ask voters whether Kansas Supreme Court justices should be selected by direct election.

The change, Kobach said, would clear a path for the state to “slowly and quietly” place anti-abortion judges on the state’s high court with the ultimate goal of overturning the Kansas Supreme Court’s 2019 Hodes decision that found the state constitution includes the right to an abortion. Kobach said the Hodes decision threw “a huge wrench into the works” of the anti-abortion movement in Kansas.

Like minds smarter than me stated, the anti choice movement is playing the long game. It took them 50 years to overturn Roe, if it takes another 10 years, they’re willing to wait.

Republicans have no respect for the idea of citizens governing themselves. They believe that their ideas are the only ones that matter, and people should shut up and accept their leadership. Republicans hate the common people.

He thinks that the same people who voted pro-choice are going to vote for anti-abortion supreme Court justices?

He is trying to ask in a referendum if Kansas Supreme Court judged should be elected or nominated.
If he wins that referendum to instead be able to nominate judges he will put anti abortion judges on the Kansas Supreme Court just like it happened at the federal level . They will then make abortion illegal in Kansas.

10. Gods... Kobach wants to do to OUR state Supreme Court

what the Federalist Society has done to SCOTUS. Sneaky and out in public at the same time. Evil to the Nth degree. I detest this man. He must not be elected! He's counting on a few things happening. First, that people will vote on Judges for the state supreme court, especially if they don't have (D) and (R) behind their names. That means, you'll have to investigate and research complete strangers whose internet pages have been stripped of any and all information on abortion. That info will be stripped as soon as they've been chosen to run, no doubt. Leave no trace. With luck, maybe the Way Back Machine could be our friend here.

Second, Kobach is hoping we women will tire or become exhausted with the endless fervor needed to keep up the "Pro-life" crowd, and let our guard down each and every election. Hopefully, he'll be in for a surprise on this one.

Third, he may be hoping his Republican friends in Congress will do his dirty work for him and strip back, if not eliminate, women's rights to vote. There are now several who have come out and said so many of our nation's "problems" started when women were given the right to vote. Don't think it can't happen. They've already stripped us of bodily rights. They -can- strip us of our voting rights, too. If the U.S. Congress won't go that far, states can do to us what they're already doing to minorities in this election and just make it that much harder for us to vote. They've got so many ways to make it harder for us to vote. Proof of marriage; proof of prior divorce; etc. Think getting a Real ID is hard? They could make getting a voter card for a woman even harder.

Did I say how much I hate Kobach? As part of the original Brownback takeover, he was part of the crew that all but killed our state. We're still trying to dig out from under the mess they made. I don't always agree with Laura Kelly, but I think she's doing as good a job as any Democrat can do, given she's got a Repub legislature to deal with. I want her to win governorship again, and I want to see her with a Democratic legislature so she can really get this state back on track. Kansas wasn't always red; and we used to be a state of which one could be really proud. Good schools; great infrastructure. We left Missouri wishing it could be Kansas. That was many, many decades ago. I so want us to be that state again!!!

voter support reaffirming the abortion rights enshrined in the KS constitution, kobach the dictator wants to decide all by himself w/o voters via some hanky panky designed to ignore the recently taken vote by amending the constitution somehow.

Despicable but an effort I feel is doomed, since voters in KS reaffirmed the right overwhelming. I think that they'll rise up again, and perhaps go further, by wiping that smug smile on kobach's face when they resoundingly beat his a&& from his run to be KS AG.

Failed at everything else, just when will he listen to the voters of KS and get the message that they don't want him in any elected office?
