I have relatives in the Tampa area who wanted me to move there. Not a chance. I have visited, but would not choose to live there. Too humid, too hot, too RW, and they get hurricanes.

Fifty year-old Florida dreams of waves going by while I'm hanging on to a palm tree with my 3 young children tethered to me with ropes. Now they're living in Central and North Florida with their own families. All I can do is send them love and peaceful music.

14. Lived in FL for almost 4yrs

2004 the state got hit with at least 4 hurricanes. I was affected greatly by two in Jax. I moved the next year 2005. Will visit, will never live there again. Just horrible.

15. Part of me wants so badly - but knows it would be wrong b/c lives are in danger - to tell Gov

DeSantis that the "European “beach nation” of Finland had “spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things. And they don’t have any problem.”

Not out of any sense of humor, but to remind him that his and the Republican's support of Trump and their party's pro-coal & oil anti-environment policies are exactly why people are likely to lose their lives today and many certainly will lose their homes. It's a reference to Trump's reactions to California wildfires, where he told us we should've raked the forest to prevent tragedy. I just don't see DeSantis as having any better grip on the situation of climate crisis. I'd not be surprised if in the aftermath he'll push for a "Don't say Global Warming" bill next. It's just so frustrating, and so preventable.

The local guy saying it’s the worst he’s seen in 40 years living there. Mayor of Ft. Myers Beach saying the wind, the rain, the surge is “like nothing I’ve experienced before.”
At 12:40pm the anchor offered a “this just in”: Ian is now “the 5th most powerful hurricane to hit the U.S. - ever.”
