(34,613 posts)Randi Rhodes just spent the good part of the first hour of her show discussing the big insurance scandal that's been going on for the past few years. It's a horrific situation created by DeSantis and his toadies. Lots of people are going to be in for a rude awakening when they try to collect on their claims.

People are likely to see the response as either positive or negative.

(16,698 posts)A couple decades ago, Florida created an "insurer of last resort" called "citizens property insurance corporation". It's been underfunded for a couple of decades. They insure a tremendous amount of coastal property that the commercial companies wouldn't touch. And much of it is for very wealthy home owners. There have been discussions for years about how to "fix" it. They even had a special session of the legislature last year that "fixed" nothing. This may be the storm everyone was worried would bankrupt the system. The state is going to be on the hook for billions that they can't afford.
With a little luck, this will bring down DeSantis and the GOP when so many homeowners don't get their property insured.
