(3,472 posts)I wonder how much they'd pay to have the most unethical creative writing team come up with something to counter that. And even then, it would still be utter garbage.

And no true sense of history.

(20,808 posts)When commercials come on at my house, the "MUTE" button is immediately pressed. I won't pay to have my intelligence insulted and be treated like an imbecile.
But if all commercials were like this, if they told the truth, I'd listen. Give me truth, facts, and honesty and I'll listen.

(54,866 posts)Of course this is not LBN, this the umbrage taken is constructed upon a non sequitur.
Also, the OP stated, in the title , that it is ....... not what you think
which they did not have to do, and thus tips off the average viewer of the OP.
As an aside, perhaps you should show this parody advert at your next champagne and foie gras-fuelled soiree.
It will be a right proper gas!

(5,104 posts)it seemed like half the threads here on DU were focused on complaining about the high cost of gasoline?
How many people here don't use petroleum products? Anyone???

(332 posts)Look. I am very pro environment. Fact. It is a problem, but today, without petroleum products, millions of Americans will freeze to death this winter. Without petroleum, our economy would collapse. So unless you ride a bicycle. Live in a 100% solar home that can sustain a constant in room temperature of above 60% when the outside temperature is below 0. (and no you cannot burn polluting wood) then you cannot support this kind of messaging. People who work in the petroleum industry have difficult jobs keeping us alive and our economy running. The companies they work for are providing products WE all demand. So get off your high horse. This mean spirited add makes liberals look foolish.

(5,104 posts)How are "the people" going to thrive w/o a steady supply of energy? Huh?
How about not deflecting or coming back with more personal insults?
Human beings have energy needs. We need to find ways to balance human needs with the health of the planet (which we can all see is it at risk).

(4,616 posts)It's never been done before! I mean even the Cave people were able to open up their laptops and hop on Twitter. The 1700's settlers, well, they would have just died if they couldn't charge their cell phones or flip on the A/C. I really liked that super sweet V-8 convertible Wyatt Earp drove to the OK corral. Much better than Doc Holiday's rag. Which did you prefer?
The Bopper
(317 posts)Believe that the type of energy used hasnt evolved over the years. Its almost as though youve never read a history book and are in no hurry to do so. When I was way younger, my great grandfather use to talk about having to gather wood for winter and everything was salted or canned for food from lack of refrigeration. My own parents had a coal furnace and now we have a combination of gas and electric. Do you really think oil has much of a future. To think so ignores the free market and common sense without climate change even being in the picture.

(332 posts)1. That burning wood and coal produces more hydrocarbon pollution than petroleum for home heating and cooking
2. That burning wood and coal produces more hydrocarbon pollution than petroleum in producing electricity.
3. That burning wood and coal can't move a car from zero to sixty in one minute.
4. Salted canned food is not good for you.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
