Muni insurance won't replace 700k torched bus (world series celebration)

Muni insurance won't replace torched bus

Turns out San Francisco's insurance policy doesn't cover torching of buses - which is why Muni is on the hook for replacing that $700,000 coach that went up in a fireball during the vandalism after the Giants' World Series win.

To add insult, the city had just spent $300,000 refurbishing the bus last year.

Although the bus was a loss, no one got hurt - which was due in no small part to the calm that driver Alan Yam displayed as yahoos descended on his 8X-Bayshore Express coach early last Monday, Muni said.

Passengers told police they realized something was going wrong when they saw a crowd shaking cars all around them at Third and Market streets. Suddenly, they began to feel the bus itself shuddering as the mob descended on it.

Yam, who has been driving for Muni for just two years, urged everyone to stay put for their safety. Then, as soon as someone began smashing out the windows, he thought better of the strategy and helped get people out the doors.

On Tuesday, Yam will be publicly honored by the Municipal Transportation Agency for his calm under fire.

What is the rationale for arson when your favorite team wins a championship?

Fire and smashing things you don't own is good when you're happy and fire and smashing things is good when you are mad.

Same deal with hurting or killing people.

That's why American-style football fans are even worse.

Maybe I should start watching it.

And American football fans are not worse. I would have to say that European soccer fans have a, well deserved, far worse reputation than "American-style football fans".

I've only been to one game, and that was in Cincinnati. That man was just looking to hurt someone. The fans went nuts when he did that. They supported that type of activity.
