Let me start by saying thank-you to all who sent prayers, good vibes, healing thoughts and more my way.
When I last posted about my Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) I was a few days post-transplant and the full effect had not hit me. The RNs told me I was going to get very sick, I believed them. Because I felt so great, I did not think I was going to get as sick as they said. I couldn't have been more wrong. There were 4-5 days when I could not even walk across the street from my hotel room for my daily check in at the hospital. I had to use a wheelchair. And let's just say nausea patches were a game changer.
2-1/2 weeks post-transplant I was released to go home. I will say going from being unable to walk, to packing the car and heading home is a testament to my Drs, RNs, PAs and the rest of the transplant team. They get all the credit. I just did what they told me to do.
I did go back to JHH For a Bone Marrow biopsy, which prompted this post.
The results are nothing short of astonishing. I am in remission. A remission so deep, they don't know how to test any deeper.
I still go to my Oncologist in my home state and my blood work keeps getting better and better.
Even better I started getting revaccinated with all those childhood vaccines last month. 6 shots. I have 2 more years before I am fully vaccinated again. I was given the okay to get revaccinated for Covid.
I finally had that beer.

(16,475 posts)When the Dr told me I could have a beer or an occasional glass of wine I looked at her funny.
What I really was trying to do was figure out how I was going to open up a bottle of wine and only drink a glass.

(2,593 posts)I can only imagine what the path you have traveled on has been like.
I cared for my mother when she had cancer until she passed. Earlier this year my legs and feet started to swell up because water in my body was not being expelled. A CT scan showed my Lymph Nodes in the groin area are swollen to 2-3cm. My Dr. told me when he saw the scan that that is normally indicative of cancer. After surgery to remove a Lymph node for a biopsy.
The pathology report showed that the lymph node are reacting too something
what I still do not know but I can stay unequivocally the other morning when the Dr. told me that it wasnt cancer that old saying that it felt like the weight of the world was lifted from my shoulders is exactly what hearing that felt like.
Congratulations to you again it is wonderful news to hear your cancer is in remission!

(16,475 posts)causing that.
It took almost 2 months for them to diagnose me. I can say it was also a relief, even though the news was bad. Because now I knew what path to take to get better. I knew what I was up against and how to fight the disease, not just the symptoms.

(16,475 posts)You were here for me when I needed to rant and vent. You talked me down when I was so mad, I was spitting nails.
You shared your trials, sympathized and encouraged me. I was not alone. The isolation you feel going through a transplant can be overwhelming. Especially during Covid. You are DU at its finest.
you deserve to hear the good news.
