- very risky. St. Javelin waits at the ready. Perhaps I am a romantic, but I'd like to think these Russians surrendered because they opposed Putin's genocide of fellow slavs. Then again, maybe they made a simple calculation to live now rather than die later.

It gave the Ukraine soldiers time to access the situation, otherwise the tank would be a burned out wreck.

Having the tank commander hatch open with the occupant exposed also helped.

The Russian lend-lease program for the Ukrainian Army in operation.

The Ukrainians are literally rolling over the Russians. Territorial maps can barely keep up. The counteroffensive has been fast, as in breathtaking, on two fronts--the east and the south. And the message is loud and clear: If you want to live? Surrender. We will treat you decently and will not disclose the surrender to your authorities. In fact, if you decide to stay in Ukraine, you can. But if you continue to attack us in our own country, you will die here.

Amazing. Speaks to the genuine skill and courage of the Ukrainians. Who wouldn't want these guys on our side? They've recently applied for an expedited entrance into NATO.

Basically an armored personnel carrier, only it has rifle ports in the sides so infantry can fight from inside the vehicle. It has a small turret that makes it look like a tank, but the gun fires low-velocity rounds that are no good against a real tank. It also fires wire-guided anti-tank missiles whose day has pretty much come and gone.

I don't know if the BMP was carrying any infantry or just the vehicle crew. The video didn't show any infantry disembarking. But the crew were smart to keep the rifle ports closed as they drove up, and to display a white flag.

Also, space is at such a premium inside the vehicle that the fuel tanks are in the rear-access doors. IN the doors. That's why they are so thick.

The US Army is taught the Five S's for dealing with enemy prisoners of war (EPWs).

Secure
Silence
Segregate (separate the officers and NCOs from the troops)
Safeguard
Silence
Speed to the Rear.

Using duct tape to secure EPWs until they are in a more secure location seems acceptable to me.

Putin press ganging so many people into service and arming them might be a big mistake. They could turn those weapons against Russia and shoot him eventually.

When the unit approached the tank you can see them all moving as one, tightly, coordinated, and like coiled springs. The quality of their training was obvious.

I wonder if this is done in order to make it harder to find white material to surrender with?? Or, it could be that brown hides the shit stains better…

That’s an older (1980’s-90’s) BMP-2. That’s an armored infantry vehicle. Three crew members, and capable of carrying seven more infantry in the back. Obviously only the three crew are surrendering.

I wish them a safe, dry and warm rest of the war.
