Some voters may think they're voting against inflation when they vote for MAGA Republicans, but they should consider the likelihood that they're actually voting for inflation, big time inflation. I spoke with a Trump Supporter recently who seemed like he hadn't considered that possibility (thanks to Republicans keeping it from him).
If MAGA Republicans win, they've made it clear they won't think twice about setting democracy aside. MAGA Republicans are idiots. If they set democracy aside, chaos will reign. All the rules that keep things running smoothly will be thrown into doubt, because they're all based on an effective, orderly set of democratically legitimate laws. What would inflation do if there were no rules? What would happen to anything that depends on established rules being followed and obligations being honored?

(37,362 posts)it would be called something else. Prices would still rise. There would be no wage inflation. Dollar would devalue, but we would blame France. Corporate profits would soar.
Unless you don't believe trump is telling the truth.

(589 posts)pretty much how I see it; systemic breakdown of pretty much everything.
We're already seeing a disintegration of systems from the economic to the political to the environmental...the MAGA party would basically put a cinder block on the accelerator pedal. They don't seem to understand that we're ALL in that car heading towards that brick wall and NONE of us are getting out. Accelerationists seem to have this fantasy that they can deconstruct the system and rebuild it in the image they desire (with THEM at the helm, of course), but complex systems that took centuries to build, layer upon layer, don't work that way...especially with a dwindling resource base.
So in my way of seeing the macro world, the next election or two are not just about saving Democracy...they are also about keeping food on the shelves and water coming out of the taps.
