Changes made by Postmaster General DeJoy before 2020 election harmed US Postal Service, judge rules

CNN —
A federal judge in Washington, DC, ruled Thursday that changes Postmaster General Louis DeJoy made to the US Postal Service before the 2020 election hurt mail delivery, and has put in place orders to prevent DeJoy from doing the same again.

Judge Emmet Sullivan said the USPS couldn’t bar postal workers from making late or extra delivery trips without permission from the Postal Regulatory Commission, an independent federal agency.

“Although the simultaneous implementation of multiple policy changes in June and July 2020 contributed to the decline in mail service and the overall confusion by postal workers, the record evidence demonstrates that changes to and impacts on the USPS transportation schedule regarding late and extra trips were the primary factor in affecting service on a nationwide or substantially nationwide basis,” Sullivan wrote in a 65-page opinion Thursday.

However, when you look at the many, many ways he tried to tamper with the election, from this somewhat benign clogging of the postal system to false electors, to voting machine tampering to violence, a coup resulting in casualties, I truly hope that the January 6th committee can expose everyone involved in this attack on our democracy.
There is no way that Trump planned all of this and I tend to believe he probably planned very little of it.

altered policies, and rewrote or removed authority to inhibit or erase the accountability...OR Mitch et al in Congress and Senate did it for him.

The same kind of thing happened under W Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Richard Perle, Oliver North, and the Neo-Con PNAC cadre. They altered how government did things by rewriting policies at FEMA, DOJ and other agencies to allow them to operate outside the law. Many of those policies were originally documents approved by Congress without provision for post-hoc redrafting without Congressional review. But since Congress was never told about the altered policies nothing was done to stop it. Ollie North personally rewrote many of FEMA's policies and procedures to change it from a rapid reaction operation devoted to disaster relief and coordination into an organization with paramilitary features and powers which was able to use its emergency authority to act as a by-pass of legal and Constitutional authority.

The terms of Donald Moak (nominal Democrat) and William Zollars (Republican) end on December 8, 2022. Biden can replace both with Democrats who are willing to sack DeJoy. Moak was appointed by Trump and has been a DeJoy ally.

Replacing these two would give Democrats their maximum five seats on the Board, enough to fire DeJoy. This court decision will certainly give them ammunition for doing so.

Unfortunately the Senate has to confirm Biden’s appointments, and they have dragged their feet on many of them, so DeJoy could still have several months to keep trying to destroy the postal service.
