Even the angry, genocidal god of the OT said “Don’t kill,” but the priests quickly added an “except” clause. And Jesus, in the NT told his followers to love God, sure, but also to love themselves and love their neighbor as they loved themselves. Basically, Jesus said that if you cannot love yourself and your neighbor, you can’t love God. Simple, but every christian denomination quickly and smuggly added an “except” to Jesus’ universal concept of neighbor. And this demented weakness in human nature has caused Jesus’ religion to devolve to, among other revolting abominations, “christian nationalism,” and virtual worship of Fatso as the Chosen One.
