https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/tommy-tuberville-crime-reparations-trump-rally-1234607858/SEN. TOMMY TUBERVILLE (R-Ala.) went on a wildly racist, white nationalist tirade, referring to Black Americans as the people who do the crime during his speech at Saturdays Trump rally.
[Democrats are] not soft on crime. Theyre pro-crime. They want crime. They want crime because they want to take over what you got. They want to control what you have. They want reparations because they think the people that do the crime are owed that. Bullshit! the senator and former Auburn football coach said as the crowd cheered. They are not owed that!

He's claim to fame was his being about a football coach, Just another empty suit like Walker
maybe just slightly more intelligent if that.

My mother said, "they may try to take over".
Or, something similar.
My comment was that "they are just people".
I have long been disappointed that I left it at that and the conversation ended.
I did not address her concern/fear.
It was like she was saying, that because white people treated black people so poorly, it was likely that the opposite would occur if black people attained a lot of power.

as being a harmless oddity, not worth the time it took to make fun of them.
The times have changed.
