Man reveals Dolly Parton sponsored uniforms at Black high schools without any publicity for years.
Parton is known for doing charity work without requiring any public recognition and fanfare for it.
A student from one of those schools commented on Harriot's tweet and wrote, "30+ years ago I was in high school marching band in East Tennessee. One year we played Sevier County High School...and DANG that band was equipped uniforms, instruments, flags, everything. Mountain area, much poverty. Paid for by Dolly Parton. That woman is a national treasure."

She is also a staunch supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. She said in an interview with Billboard in 2020, "Of course, Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No."Dolly Parton has continued to give back to her community at every possible opportunity. One Twitter user said it best, "Dolly may be the closest thing to a saint on our planet. She doesnt want her good works publicized and goes about her work quietly."

(43,049 posts)millions to charities. Imagine how loaded she'd be if she hust hoarded the cash. But she's said often enough that she just couldn't do that.
I remember an interview years ago when she said she'd go to meetigs with all these big shots and just quetly sit back, being just a bit of fluff in rhe room. When it came time make decisions, she went into action and stunned everyone by doing the right, and sensible, thing. I suspect she doesn't run into those types much more.

(29,634 posts)I think it's the only one I ever sent (not sure if the ones we wrote to the Monkees were ever mailed).
Anyway, I immediately got back a full packet of stuff, butterfly stickers, coupons to Dollywood (lots of these) and an appointment as a "Dollywood Ambassador"!

(36,631 posts)First time I ever saw Dolly Parton on tv (b&w, Porter Wagoner show), I was a smug, smartass, know-it-all, rebellious barely-teenager and made snide comments about her hair with hairspray and her makeup. My quiet, old-time Southern Baptist (not the modern hateful kind) mother said, "Did you ever stop to think she might not dress to suit you? I like her." It made me shut up and listen and discover that beautiful voice. I never saw or heard her the same after that.
The cumulative effects of Dolly Parton are not measurable and are not limited to dollars she's gifted.

(5,126 posts)Joyful Noise is a 2012 American musical comedy-drama film, starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan, and Courtney B. Vance. It was written and directed by Todd Graff, with gospel-infused music by Mervyn Warren. The film was released in U.S. theaters on January 13, 2012. In the film, two strong-minded women are forced to cooperate when budget cuts threaten to shut down a small-town choir.[2] The film received mixed reviews, with praise for its songs and acting but criticism of its script and tone.

(115,406 posts)On the old Cas Walker show out of Knoxville. He only had a 15-minute program and had to squeeze her in as a special guest. Usually, her Uncles, Bud and Willie Brewster would sing a couple of songs with their band and then they would let Dolly sing. To me, she sounded like an angel. That was the only TV station we could pick up in our part of the mountains.

(9,354 posts)to the valu (and the necessity) of respecting all kinds of culture which are different from one's own. I can vaguely describe why, but there's no way I can explain it. But oh boy, has it served me well throughout life.
I've known for a while what a philanthropist (for want of a less condescending word) she is and always has been
God save this Queen. May she live forever.
