Paul Begala Says 'Pain-in-the-Ass White Liberals on Twitter' Aren't 'Real Democrats'

"...The early states are full of White liberals. They don’t like Joe. And then we move to real Democrats – African Americans in the south, they loved him. And he steamrolled everybody because in my party, the heart and soul of the party are people of color, not pain-in-the-ass White liberals on Twitter."

This white guy is on Twitter and likes Joe. Come on, Begala. Terrible generalization.

It doesn't matter what you or I think. Twitter is ideologically skewed in both directions. The people who opine there are not part of the ordinary voter pool, and their opinions on the Democratic side skew more to the left-leaning perspective, which Biden doesn't reflect. Ditto the early voting States (IA/NH) as far as Democratic voters go.

(I had lunch with Begala two weeks ago, and these points came up in our discussion).

productive and the electoral results are not great. Consider PA where we have lost over and over with moderate Senatorial candidates. Now I have read the breathless reports about Oz 'catching' up but he has not been ahead one time this season and 538 has Fetterman up six points. Mandela Barnes is competitive in Wisconsin too...when was the last time that happened? I still think Howard Dean was correct that you tailor candidates to their states or districts. And I am tired of seeing the DNC job awarded for political reasons. Jaime Harris is a good guy but not experienced enough to head the DNC IMHO.

And I have seen quite a bit of baiting of the left on DU lately, and I find it unproductive and perhaps foolish. We are all in this together. Lifetime moderates need to be open to the possibility that times change and the election of progressive Democrats is a good thing always. And progressive Democrats must understand that they need to pick primaries in areas where they can likely win a General to run in...no more running in say Texas House districts or the West Virginia Senate primary when winning the General is not likely or perhaps even not possible. Both sides need to realize that electing Democrats is the most important thing regardless if they are moderate or Progressive. And they also need to stop picking on each other. 'We will either hang together or hang separately' as Benjamin Franklin is said to have opined during the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Those words resonate even today.

As far as DU goes, I am weary of divisive threads like the OP which appears to want to pit Democrats against each other right before the midterms.

Twitterverse does not reflect real life in any way shape or form

Divisive Click-bait pieces demonizing Paul Begala are pretty unimportant compared to GOTV for election.

Let’s stick to what’s important.

always want to hear. A few months ago during our MANCHIN furor, he said MANCHIN is an authentic Dem. My mother said to be careful with the *friend* we trust the most because that one would know our weak spots. We like it when he says things like, "Texas is not a Red state; it's a non-voting state."

MAHER is subject to the same critique, saying things to stiffen our spine.

Reminds me of a "Family Guy" episode where the FCC starts massive censorship because of an incident at the Emmy's. The head of the FCC says "We received 20 calls about the David Hyde Pierce situation, which, of course, translates to 20 THOUSAND people complaining. Shut down TV!"

That's twitter in a nutshell!
