(29,518 posts)It actually can increase murders, if a state has an active DP.
So, please explain how a murder stops murders?

(54,951 posts)civilised nation until it bans the death penalty.
Since 1990, ten countries (China, Congo, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan, Sudan, USA and Yemen) have executed offenders who were under the age of 18 or 21 at the time the crime was committed, contravening the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Nice company the US keeps.

I want that to weigh on him like a collapsed piano every. Single. Moment. Of the rest of his life.

(24,753 posts)I dont personally support the death penalty. So life in prison is good.
I hope the universe holds every Parkland student, parent, teacher, staff and all those touched by this very gently today. While Im sure the verdict is welcome
I cant imagine the pain theyve all been living through during the trial.

(10,599 posts)I realize it's not a popular opinion here, but I think crimes like this are so Horrific as to warrant Death.
The people should not have to pay to sustain this PIECE OF SHIT'S life for potentially the next 70 years.

Of course, there are other reasons one may still support the death penalty.

(37,620 posts)At the same time, holding a human in captivity, with all the psychological pain that entails, amounts to state-sponsored torture.
Some seem to like the idea of the state's imposing a prolonged period of suffering, and the more suffering the better.
I figure for some offenses death is warranted. It's not that I think it's deterrence, I think it's just eradication of the problem in as painless a way as possible. Construct something like a phone booth, put the guy in it with plastic bottle of liquor of his choice, and at some random time replace the air in the booth with nitrogen.

(9,238 posts)Its not so much the cost.. its the idea that the state is supporting this evil murdering creep for the rest of his life to live somewhat comfortably with 3 meals a day, free healthcare, clean warm bed, various activities, etc. A much better life that the millions of Americans who are homeless and living on the street.

(29,518 posts)And, FL prisons tend not to have any AC, which I actually also think is barbaric, but for those who want him to suffer (which is not what justice should be), FL state prisons are inhumane shitholes.
