Republicans are offering support to conservative Muslims in Dearborn angry over LGBTQ+ affirming books in school libraries.
Driving the news: Dearborn is engaged in debate over a number of books including "This Book is Gay" in media centers across Dearborn Public Schools, Michigan's third-largest district.
Hundreds who packed a school board meeting Monday to protest school board members defending the books refused to settle, shutting the meeting down.
The meeting is scheduled to resume tonight at 7pm at the 600-person capacity Stout Middle School auditorium, where posters and signs have been banned, the Free Press reports.

(13,944 posts)Their problem with Muslims was not that they were religious or that their religion was different.
It was and is, primarily, that they are a competing religion.

(8,101 posts)Of those groups. Theyve had success with some Hispanic groups. I posted a few days ago about a horrendous ad that was playing on a local Caribbean radio station about Dems forcing kids to be trans. I said in that post, I hope Dems are paying attention.
They know how to play the long game. It doesnt have to be successful right now, but if they continue to chip away, we may find ourselves in deep trouble.
Republicans understand tribalism really well.
Immigrants, religious groups may stick together on a certain cause out of loyalty to that group. Even if they would not otherwise align with republicans.

(4,298 posts)more to worry about than LGBTQ books that they are not being forced to read. Abortion: if you don't like it or your religion forbids it, just don't have one.
Books: If you don't like the subject matter just don't read the book.
The people you are aligning yourself with will be among the first to deny you the rights afforded citizenship ... they want you out of their neighborhood, their schools, "their country."
