So as far as Donald being required to testify under oath I don't think Donald is capable of pleading the fifth. When I say capable I mean actually emotionally capable. Sure a smart man would take the fifth. But Donald is not a smart man. And Donald also ignores legal advice. I don't think he'll be able to avoid taking the bait.
He's so convinced of his own BS I think he'll blab.
I mean in some sense Donald is a Scooby-Doo villain....

The former president has railed against the committee, saying that he hasn't been able to have "equal time" to defend himself and has demanded that he be able to speak.

(243 posts)I think the only thing he can do is refuse to show up. At that point the committee needs to send the Sergeant at arms to arrest him.

(243 posts)The committee is not a courtroom and I think it's going to throw him. I think he's going to walk in the door with his head in the idea that it's rally material...

(81,161 posts)Don't listen to his public rantings, look at his past behavior.
He hates to perjure himself under oath. So he always takes the 5th.
That is his actual history.
But he is addicted to attention and the limelight.
And loves to air his list of grievances.
The platform will be tempting.
I think at the end of the day he won't show.
And the committee won't do a thing about it.

(1,789 posts)If he really wanted equal time within the committee setting, he could have volunteered to speak to them. He will speak his piece from the safety of his living room without the threat of perjury for his lies. This will be just like the impeachments where he refused subpoenas for evidence and testimony. He professed such innocence that he wouldn't lend credence to the proceedings, as if impeachment wasn't a thing. I expect a repeat here.

(6,792 posts)I don't think he can speak both publicly and under oath without digging his grave; but I don't think his pride will allow him to take the fifth in front of the world as it can be so easily illustrated as a terrible weakness.
It'll be damned interesting to see his next parlor trick.

(8,103 posts)Like a shiny object, he'll say it over and over. He'll be amused, and will have someone keep count of how many times he says it. It'll be great theater for him.
If he were to actually say something, it will only be to disparage someone who has crossed him.

What has Garland done with the referral of their subpoena of Mark Meadows? Nada. Bupkis.
