some diseases. It had to do with making sure your body humors were in balance. Of course, this went out of favor in Western medicine around the time of the Renaissance. Urinalysis is still a diagnostic tool, but these days it's done by looking at the results of various chemical reactions, and it's largely automated.

To be a doctor meant getting very close in to a patient. Even without microscopes and modern labs, they could learn a lot — and they were not always wrong.

Now, we don’t know what Oz is on about — but maybe he went to a lecture on old practices and decided to try a taste of the closest bladder, himself.

Side note: We are talking about modern Western medicine and Western revulsions just now. If you want a different take on things, look up Chinese medicine of the old days. It wasn’t all moxibustion and acupuncture.
