NYTs :Netanyahu Says He’d Go It Alone on Striking Iran

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday reiterated his willingness to attack the Iranian nuclear program without support from Washington or the world, returning to an aggressive posture that he had largely abandoned since his United Nations speech in September.

“When David Ben-Gurion declared the foundation of the state of Israel, was it done with American approval?” Mr. Netanyahu asked in an interview broadcast on Israel’s Channel 2 on Monday night. “When Levi Eshkol was forced to act in order to loosen the siege before 1967, was it done with the Americans’ support?

“If someone sits here as the prime minister of Israel and he can’t take action on matters that are cardinal to the existence of this country, its future and its security, and he is totally dependent on receiving approval from others, then he is not worthy of leading,” Mr. Netanyahu added. “I can make these decisions.”

I cannot see his behavior in September as anything other than a heavy-handed attempt to influence our elections.

I don't have a favorable view of any foreign leader who attempts something like that.

We all remember from our history books how Poland, Holland, France, etc were constantly making threats against Germany and blaming Germans of "running" world policy.

Netanyahu was SHUT DOWN by his own security people. So, yeah, he doesn't have to rely on the US or anyone else, but he does have to rely on his own national security's approval, which clearly he doesn't have. He is doing nothing more than political posturing prior to Israeli elections, but of course it really is more evil than that; it has to be!

"As long as I am prime minister, Iran will not have the atomic bomb. If there's no other way, Israel is ready to act."

The report revealed that the prime minister had in fact ordered his armed forces to prepare a unilateral strike on Iran's nuclear facilities in 2010, only to pull back from the brink of war.

Two years ago, Mr Netanyahu, supported by Ehud Barak, his defence minister, issued an order raising the military alert level to "P-Plus" – a rarely issued command signalling imminent war.

Israel has been rattling their sabers regarding Iran for what? fifteen years now?

Problem for Israel is: most if not all of Iran's nuke related facilities are in hardened concrete bunkers-- wayyyyy underground. how to effectively bomb these from the air? you can't.
