BARABOO For five Baraboo High School students, the night of Oct. 5 started with a plan to take part in lighthearted homecoming antics. It ended with the arrests of three men including a school leader, following a confrontation the boys said made them fear for their lives and seemed racist.
In interviews this week with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, three of the boys described the incident as their parents told a reporter their sons were shaken up.
Meanwhile, the Ho-Chunk Nation has called for a federal investigation of the incident because one boy is a tribal member and there were indications students of color were treated differently than a white youth who also was present.
Among the men involved in the incident was the boys' school activities director. The boys' parents have called for him to step down after they say he failed to protect their sons.
