Trump Fundraising Overhead Soaks Up 91 Cents Of Each Donor Dollar: Report

Donald Trump’s political fundraising operation has been spending 91 cents on overhead expenses for every dollar it brings in, according to Federal Election Commission filings reported by Bloomberg.

Trump raised a fat $24 million in the third quarter — a 41% increase over the previous quarter — but spent $22 million to do so, the new figures show.

Raising the money apparently became far more difficult and expensive (or fundraisers were pocketing larger salaries) as troubles mount for Trump. The FBI confiscated several boxes of White House documents — including classified and top secret information — from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound in August. In September, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) filed a $250 million civil lawsuit alleging business fraud against Trump and his three oldest children.

This... To me... Is the weirdest thing about magats. See... I've been ripped off in the past. Conned out of some money but you know what I did not do? I did not praise the guy who conned me... I did not continue to fall for the con... And I certainly did not continue to give money to the con man yet... The magats refuse to accept they got ripped off and continue to fund the con man. Very fuckin weird.

Audit them. This can't be true. He is a liar and will always be one. This smells like a possible RICO case.

his fundraising is a big fat grift that the family lives off of. The cult is a gift that keeps on giving.

.

I think there is some kind of rule or law that 9% is the bare minimum for a cause.

Some other really big fundraiser did that, I think SGKomen or a breast cancer fund.

10. If done cleverly enough, fundraising is big business, and very lucrative to those who do it.

Trump raising money was bound to be an outright scam, and any oversight authority should have caught on to it ages ago. But even the good guys don't go away empty-handed. Act Blue says they raised $5 billion during the 2020 election cycle. Their usual fee is 3.95% of each contribution. If they raised $5 billion over two years, they pocketed $200 million minus whatever programming and accounting expenses they might have incurred. It's not Trump sleaze, but it's not small change, either. Now, they do what they do, and do it well, and I don't begrudge them the money they made. They built the better mouse trap, and reaped the reward. I would hope they plow a lot of their after-tax money into Democratic campaigns that desperately need it. I prefer just to do it the old-fashioned way and send checks. That way, i KNOW that my candidate or cause gets 100% of what I sent them.

Even in legitimate causes supported by fundraising, the more dedicated the fundraisers, the less their services will cost. Bill Clinton was talking about this 17 years ago to a small group, and he remarked that while he was in office, his administration was working on a few development prorams, and that expenses were eating up close to 25% of the fuinds available. When he started up his post-presidency charity, he discovered that those costs could be reduced to 4%. When asked why that wasn't done earlier, his immediate response was, "because we were stupid, that's why!"
