My neck is broke. Im paralyzed, said Craig Ridley from a wheelchair. Youre bullsh*tting. Youre just trying to get a lawsuit, responded a corrections officer.
Ridley laid on the floor of his cell for the next five days pleading for help as officers dropped trays of food he couldnt reach. Just hours before, officers tackled him to the ground, dislocating his neck. A report by the Miami Herald, including details from a 383-page investigation by The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, has shined a light on the hidden story of Ridleys death.
FDLEs report found Ridley died because of his injuries and starvation. His fellow inmates and family members told investigators his death may have been a cover up.
Ridley was sentenced to a 20-year mandatory minimum on attempted murder charges in 2007. The morning of Sept. 8, 2017, correctional officers got into a struggle with Ridley, tackling him to the ground face first. According to the video footage, he was brought a wheelchair after telling the officers he couldnt walk. He was taken to solitary confinement and officers propped up him on the cells toilet. He fell over, breaking his nose.
An inmate signaled to the officers that Ridley was lying in a pool of his own blood. Ridley was finally taken to see a doctor, Jean Dure, who concluded there was nothing wrong with him and conducted no neurology tests despite the lifeless appearance of Ridleys limbs and his inability to move on his own, according to the FDLE.

(23,784 posts)are too able to do their own injustices with impunity. And these horrors are usually what make the news.
Getting rid of states rights and implementing universal national rights would be a huge step forward. France did in with its myriad of provinces with their own idiosyncrasies and redrew the country into departments.
As far as I know, most of the abysmal human rights abuses happen in a few states - won't impugn any but Southern comes to mind.

(35,176 posts)you get worse. I think of how many people who saw this happening and let it go and I just want to leave this insane, cruel, brutal country. How many people from all the jobs in a jail thought to do something about this?
I do not care what he did, this is not right. Murder (maybe) gets murder for sure from those who house him. Of the two here who is the obvious criminal?

(26,823 posts)That was like revenge (death for a murderer when not state sanctioned [I'm against it]) instead of justice (being in prison).
