Glad Nancy didn't take the pledge.

(20,074 posts)benefit/utility of term limits, but it is true. Supposedly it frees legislators from special interests because they don't have to run for re-election, ergo they don't have to worry about seeking campaign support and can just do the right thing... but that narrative ignores that a hard deadline on leaving office also means a hard deadline on finding a new cushy job.
CA adopted term limits for the state legislature and it's been terrible. More legislation is now written by lobbyists (literally lobbyists writing the bills and handing them to a rep who then submits them) than before. Why? Because the legislators have less experience -- they are short-timers now, the lobbyists were there before them and will be around long after they are termed out -- and also from day one the legislators are bending over backwards to do lobbyists' bidding b/c they are looking for their impending post-politics gig, often in lobbying or in an industry said lobbyists represent.
Fuck term limits. Voters should be able to elect who they want.
Maybe an age limit ...

(45,836 posts)They will swear to only serve two terms, but when reelection comes around, they will decide they are too important and run again
I can count a LOT more who run on them and don't hold themselves to it than not.
