I'm in trouble, sinking under my medical and other expenses.
I paid off one of my hospital bills for my 2nd cancer surgery 2 months ago. It was a bad mistake to do, because as soon as I got to work, I learned I was getting laid off, (essentially, I'm a traveler) in 2 weeks. So, that 2 weeks pay is nearly gone.
I'm just over 200 short of sinking my bank account below zero in about 1 month. Both are medical bills, payment on my first surgery (16.000 after insurance, on payment plan) and my PCP's monthly fee.
My PCP is driving me nuts with his secretary calls that I'm now overdue for tests.
Soon as I get some mail information relayed to me I can finish my social security application. But that's a 6 week gap away once that happens. I thought I'd get work by now, but 2 interviews and still no gig.
I may be able to do some local work but getting there is an expense I dare not do unless it's a multi-tasking trip.
I'm so tired from lack of sleep and trying to deal with depression of trying to get work at 63.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.
So I set up this gofundme.
https://gofund.me/057a8210
I'm only asking for what I need. 250 will keep my bank account afloat. Another 250 I can go see my doctor and get the u/s and minimal tests he's driving me crazy to get done. 40 gas, 100 motel 6, various road food, etc.
So I set my goal at 500, plenty to do what I need, fresh food and if the best happens- get me to a job site.

(3,234 posts)And you & many others are why I fight for Medicare For All.
It's the ONLY solution to end this nightmare scenario of our healthcare system.
I too am very ill & have been for a few years. I don't understand why people and many of our elected officials don't support M4A when so many like yourself are hurting so bad. It's a disgrace.
I'll share you GoFundMe with my friends. Let's try & get you the help you need & require

(25,212 posts)What state are you in? You need a patient advocate. We recently went through this with my son. If you are in PA --go to PA Compass. We will donate to your Go Fund Me . Peace to you. I'm sure most states have a similar program. Don't ever forget you are loved.

(14,420 posts)Call your hospital and tell them your situation. They have programs that will cover your expenses. At the very least, you'll be able to put a hold on things or get some referrals for agencies that will help you.
Try not to despair. I prayed for you.

(2,809 posts)Thank you DU members! I'm already over my goal just as the sun is rising, which already means so much more: I can probably even afford some other strategies now, including heading to the BLM LTVA for several advantages over staying here. It is going to hit near freezing here this weekend and I only had two camp propane bottles left, now I can get more and stay warm.
I'm heading to town for a tire repair U was going to forgo and take my chances with the auxiliary tank, and check on a potential problem I discovered that will require usage of the library internet. (I may have USPS that is bouncing between an old forwarding to my brother's and the new, sending it there) but can't get on the proper page on my phone here to check with the signal that drops towatds daytime.
I can call the doctor, head there next week and do what I'm supposed to be doing.
I was so messed up yesterday with worry I couldn't concentrate on anything.
On top of it all, one travel organization has requested a PDF form I can't do on my phone.
Heaven bless everyone here.
I gotta get busy, back on track now, thanks to DU members!!!

(61,608 posts)Having a small cushion of funds can make a huge difference in terms of becoming stable in the long-term. For instance, a deposit on a rented apartment to allow postal delivery, allowing him to obtain a job.
It's so hard to build stability with no safety net.

(19,564 posts)Get some fresh food, needed repairs and rest. Then refocus and work through all this.
It's going to be ok. You and Tiago are on the right track to being able to stay warm and fed this winter.

(61,608 posts)Be sure to tell your doctor what's going on. Tell them that you don't have enough money for food or housing. Many doctor's offices now have social workers who can help you connect with resources.
I hope things get better for you soon.
