Trump is scheduled to be deposed in the E. Jeanne Carroll defamation law suit and Trump is furious.
Carroll is going to use the discovery to also sue Trump next month for raping her. A new New York law will go in effect that allows survivors of sexual assaults to sue, eliminating the statute of limitations.
The defamation law suit was filed when Bill Barr was AG and he immediately claimed that defaming Ms. Carroll was an official duty of the president and DOJ would take his place in court. When Barr was replaced by Merrick Garland, Garland did not have to agree with Barr's determination, but he did. The decision of whether what Trump did, defaming Ms. Carroll, is an official duty of the president, will be decided by the DC Appeals court. If it is determined that defaming someone is an official duty of a president it would have huge repercussions, giving a president more power than he already has and making it almost impossible to charge him with a crime he committed while he was in office.
Wish I could listen in on Trump's deposition today.

Why are we still protecting Trump from his own crimes?

We need to roll more like Trump sometimes.

I hope the judge orders Trump to give up a DNA sample.

How in holy Hell can that be considered valid?

gab13by13
(31,626 posts)and doubling down defaming E. Jean Carroll will have any influence on the DC court deciding if what he did as president was an official duty?
