Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) scoffed, but Democrat Joy Hofmeister was just stating the facts.
By Ed Scarce October 20, 2022
Joy Hofmeister, the Democratic nominee for governor, correctly says that Oklahoma has higher violent-crime rates than NY and California, and Kevin Stitt says that's "not true" and then bizarrely asks the crowd if they believe it's true.
I somehow don't think the embarrassing Stitt will still be laughing after November 8 when he loses in deep-red Oklahoma.

In a debate Wednesday night between Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) and his Democratic challenger, Joy Hofmeister, the governor took issue with Hofmeister pointing out accurately the states violent crime problem.

(82,849 posts)Oh sure, you can cite your statistics and fancy book-learnin' numbers, but here in Oklahoma we don't accept something as true just because there's facts and evidence showing that it's true. No siree! We accept things as real if we feel or believe they're true. We want to believe that our glorious state doesn't have a bad crime rate, so hey presto! Oklahoma's crime rate is lower than New York's or California's. As long as we all agree on that, it's true, no matter what the facts are!
We used to dismiss people like that as delusional. Now we elect them to high office.

Months ago he fought to keep legal weed off the Nov ballot. Yesterday, slipping in the polls again, he announced a special election in March. First governor to get covid, only governor to hold a Trump rally in the middle of a pandemic.
He has got to go!!

2020 2019 2018 2017 2016 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011
Oklahoma 458.6 436.3 474.6 457.4 455.3 422.0 413.8 428.1 474.4 454.8
California 442.0 442.1 447.5 453.3 444.8 426.3 396.4 396.2 423.5 411.1
New York 363.8 361.0 350.8 361.1 374.6 379.7 384.7 389.8 406.3 398.1
New York has been consistently lower than both CA and OK. With the exceptions of 2019 and 2015, CA has been lower than OK. Hey Stitt and moderator! Truth hurts, don't it?
