Tomorrow marks he 39th year since 241 servicemen were killed in Beirut.

220 were Marines. Will MSM cover this? Was Reagan asleep at wheel during this very deadly attack? Did he get Benghazied by the media? Were pollsters asking, "How safe do you feel with Republicans in control?"

Watch the reaction of this grade B movie star.

He simply "switched the channel". Two days later he will launch an invasion on a medical school in Grenada. This is vintage demagoguery. Did the media ask him, "Do you think the American people will realize this is a sham to cover your Beirut bad press?" Were pollsters asking, "How do you feel about the all mighty USA invading a medical school in teenie weenie Grenada?"

Those Marines were a sitting target, left unprotected. Reagan was never held to account. He loved the American people so much, he called ketchup a vegetable for school kids. Ignored AIDS. Put Ollie North, known by the military to have been in a psych ward, in charge of things he never should have been allowed near. Read Lou Canon's "President Reagan--the Role of a Lifetime" for the inside look at this poseur.

"I couldn't understand why Democrats viewed him as an easy mark". He was underestimated just like Trump, and the country has never been the same.

Jimmy Carter lost in 1980 because of relentless media attention to the Iran hostages - who were all released unharmed! But hundreds of our people died in Beirut on Reagan's watch... and crickets.

The sad thing is the republicans use the exact same tactics, And people keep falling forward. And then republicans keep putting someone dumber and dumber and dumber and dumber in office.

Meanwhile all the intelligent people behind the scenes in the Republican party. They are the ones that are coming up with all the great strategies.

I blame the John Birch Society

The members include, the Koch Brothers Their father was a founding member
Rupert murdoch.

This weirdo society believes if they bring about an Apocalypse Jesus will return.
How convenient that 6 months after Joe Biden ended the Afghanistan war.
Putin suddenly invade Ukraine. And guess which American company hasn't left Russia
Koch Industries hmmm.

It could be a strange coincidence. The head of that industry is part of a weirdo cult that believes if they start in Apocalypse Jesus will return. And suddenly Russia is invading Ukraine and threatening nuclear options. I don't know maybe someone should look into it.🤷🏾?♀️

Against military occupation by large foreign powers.

Reagan withdraw US troops immediately after the attack. Al Qaeda succeeded in removing the thousands of US troops from The KSA. George W quietly pulled them out after 9 - 11.

snatch every excuse to slather and snarl at people who didn't wear their jersey. RW neighbors were already becoming overtly impolite and even hostile, of course (I remember!), but we were all downright rational and decent compared to today. The Beirut deaths were a national tragedy and the enemy external.

But, I guess the nostalgia was a little too swift -- not for that old time! None of us foresaw the future and how profoundly we would change, but the right was already slipping the cultural leash, morphing and on its way to what it's become. And in the next century the authoritarian and populist left, a smaller but dangerous cohort, would follow them.

Leaving us. Thank goodness America has us!

He knew the Marines position near the airport made them sitting ducks.

He also had extensive contacts with all the factions--including with Hizbullah fighters.

When my friend started hearing chatter about an an attack on the Marine base he had a moment of struggle between maintaining journalistic neutrality and providing a warning about what was likely coming. He decided that trying to save lives was right course.

So he warned the American authorities in Beirut that an attack was likely coming. And that is was likely going to be a truck-bomb.

Nothing was done to protect the Marines. They were warned.

This was a disgrace.
