To make matters even worse, Jayapal incredibly (or is it appallingly) held this event at the very moment Speaker Pelosi was at a conference in Zagreb on Ukraine and Crimea answering questions about Kevin McCarthys blank check quote and reaffirming US commitment to Ukraine. This is either terribly inept or shockingly disloyal, take your pick.
Jayapal apparently has designs on a leadership position post-Midterm. Her ambitions are going up in flamesor at least they should be.

All this "peace" initiative is going to accomplish is encouragement to the Bear.

(43,133 posts)date letter and completely sand-bagged the other 29 signers by releasing it now without any consultations.
What a stupid move by a politician I thought was FAR more aware and shrewd.

(22,911 posts)Not this time. May this be the worst mistake she makes in Congress, it's pretty damn bad. I'll get past it in time if she returns to her former form, I hope she can too, but for now I am really disappointed, and that is the mild way of putting it.

(22,911 posts)It is very odd that it was supposedly signed in July but word of it only got out now. I don't know if she is the one who "released" it now, could be, but if so I can't help but think maybe someone else was about to "out it" so she decided to get out in front of it. Either way it is bad on and bad for her and the other signers. The letter is real even if they did get cold feet about going public with it. If she was trying to move into House leadership a rival could have been behind the release of the letter now. This was all the ammunition they needed to trip her up if that's the case, and she provided it on a silver platter for them.

(27,794 posts)It was at some event with the "squad" back in, I think, 2020. She's my rep, and it annoyed me excessively, and I had the phone in my hand about ten times ready to call her office but decided to stand down.

(27,794 posts)But I still bristle when I think of the squad up there on stage laughing while Hillary was booed. Are they Democrats of convenience only? I would hate to think that, but....

Putin would love to hit a pause button and come back out refreshed and restocked in March. Anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to the war can see that.

(21,529 posts)Did It months ago and dont even know why it went out now. So Jayapal just hung all those people out to dry to answer questions about this right before the election.
Jayapal and anyone else responsible for releasing this need to be hauled into the Oval Office for a thorough tongue lashing from Biden and Pelosi.

(13,776 posts)My daughter is super politically aware and into social and economic justice, etc, and is very picky about who she likes. I always loved watching her too... she just looks and sounds so kind, intelligent, and caring.
So this is just incredibly incredibly disappointing.

(27,794 posts)Her primary opponent was Brady Walkinshaw, a local environmentalist from a somewhat prominent local family. I really liked him, and voted for him, but one thing that bothered me at the time was that Jayapal essentially accused him of being anti-feminist because he ran against a woman. It's one of the little things about her that bugs me, even though in general I am satisfied with her as my representative.
This misstep needs some explanation, though.

Churchills admonishment was as valid in June, when the orcs were still taking bites out of Ukraines sovereign land as it is now, when they are terrorizing the civilian population and threatening nuclear devastation, again against the civilian population and infrastructure. Jayapals letter was as spectacularly bad then as it is today.
