Guys, Fetterman did great last night he was honest and authentic...Oz as usual was a dick selling his usual snake oil...and made a bad error with the abortion question.
The media, particularly the cowardly right wing press will tell you that Fetterman was a joke, that he was an embarrassment, that his was the worst debate performance in history. Let me stop there. Performance, too often, is the right word for politics. Over time, I have come to view some candidates as performance artists. Too much of our world is wrapped up in the adoration for celebrities, and Oz is a celebrity. He is also about as authentic as Taco Bell.
John Fetterman predictably, stumbled at times, as anyone dealing with aphasia from a stroke would. He explained to the audience that this would not be easy, that there would be mistakes, and that he would do his best. That is all he can do.
Oz talked himself into corners, leaving perhaps a knockout blow of an ad with an all-time gaffe, a gaffe that John Fetterman is going to take advantage of. Saying local political leaders should be involved in the health decisions of a woman is practically speaking, political self-destruction./div]

(68,703 posts)knowledge he would be attacked by our mostly right-wing media. He told the truth, was polite, and did not exceed his time, and he got his point across. I was very proud to be a Fetterman supporter. He also got Oz to make a -what I think is a fatal mistake- say that a woman, her doctor, and a local politician should make the decision regarding abortion...of course, the woman and her doctor don't matter in real life only the politician...buh bye Oz.

However if there's anyone holding out, they would have seen last night that John deserves their vote.

(37,454 posts)in my youth a member of the local volunteer fire dept had a stroke, he could remember all the swears words but struggle to get out what he wanted to say, f it became his frustration about it. Here was a local businessman you'd really would give you the shirt off his back. In the afternoons, I find him and get him to read the newspaper, it had larger print, Sports Headlines, things he liked Just read, and I would help him with the words. Slowly a sentence would come. I would read back the text to show him what it actually said. After some weeks he was able struggling to get a sentence out. Eventually one sentence became two then three. He improved so that he could say what he was thinking or wanted to say. He just needed retraining in speaking, slowly, so he could develop a cadence between what he saw and his brain and what came out his mouth. Overtime he improved, even if it was halting at time.

I watched some of the debate, and let me tell you, the media I'm watching is nailing Oz on the abortion remarks he made. It's been going on all day on MSNBC, which has not really said much about Fetterman's performance, which was fine. I don't think debates make that much difference, but boy, did this one provide fodder to attack Oz.
I think that's the difference maker, though there are several polls who don't have this race as close as those 700 or 800 responses with all of their factors.

Or did he yell, "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain?"
(I'm sure there have been all too many Oz references, but I couldn't resist.)
