6. I grew up in NW Indiana, and we were in the Chicagoland Media market ...

So all our TV news and all major radio stations were all out of Chicago.

I realize that Illini is a Native American tribal name & that U of Ill use Illini as well, but I have never heard any news cast ever refer to people from Illinois as Illinoisians. It was always Illini.
If not Illini, it would be Illiniosans and I hadn't heard Illinoisan before either.

I've lived most of my life in Illinois, and I've never heard Illini used for anything other than the U of I athletic teams.

I went to Northern Illinois University myself. Our teams were the Huskies, and we had a person in a cute Huskie dog outfit for a mascot: Victor E. Huskie. Which has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion, except that I'm feeling nostalgic.
