This was not a random act, said William Scott, San Franciscos chief of police. This was intentional.
Lets stop dismissing attacks like these and threats against public servants as products of garden-variety mental illness. This was not a boat accident, propeller, coral reef, or Jack the Ripper.
It was Trumpism.

(106,211 posts)People who expressed hatred of Amber Heard in the case brought against her by Johnny Depp often seemed to just hate women (it would be possible to side with Depp, given the evidence presented, without being misogynistic, but the reality was that many online made it a case of hating the woman, and not weighing things up rationally).

(16,448 posts)"Memes and videos mocking Amber Heard expose the deep hatred and distrust of women as well as revealing the prevalence of misogyny, experts have warned.
Campaigners from leading UK charities and experts told The Independent viral online responses to the lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Ms Heard shed light on how many people assume women who report domestic abuse and sexual violence are lying.
...
Dr Proudman added: It is never acceptable to laugh and mock a complainant of sexual violence. Lets not forget that Amber Heard was found by a High Court Judge in the UK to be a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of Depp.
...
The memes serve to undermine her, and in doing so, they send out a strong message to survivors that if you speak out, you could be laughed at, and ridiculed, this might discourage women from seeking support from friends or family and they might be reluctant to report abuse to the police.
Dr Proudman argued the memes mocking Heard are driven by misogyny and a deep hatred towards women as she argued people are conditioned and socialised to hate women....(more)

(2,941 posts)That the RW wont acknowledge the impact of Trump having anything to do with the attackers motivation. Yes, some have condemned the attack such as Yertle the Tertle but comments regarding motivation will be absent. Or they will pull out the mental illness card.

(106,211 posts)It's quite likely that Trumpists will try that. In another DU thread, there's already hand-wringing that the mention of Jimmy Dore in the attacker's online entertainment enjoyment will enable Trumpists to claim he was "far left", not far right.
Yes, mental health has already come up:
We dont have any contact with him and just feeling sad and sorry for the Pelosi family, Ron DePape said. Its just a sad event. It has to be mental health issues that hes been carrying around, I would think. Ron DePape, who lives in Powell River, British Columbia, said David DePape lived in Powell River for a short time before leaving at an early age to follow a girlfriend who lived in the U.S.

Having mental health issues may make someone more vulnerable to the Qanon and antisemitic crap stuff he professed, and to acting violently on it, but the driving force of the Trump bigotry and encouragement of violence must be centered.

(58,785 posts)leap to assume that normal people are acting out political malice, a view that facilitates calling to "lock them up!"
And that it's the possibility of mental illness that's blown off before it even needs to be dismissed. Presumably to avoidraising the unpalatable possibility that responsible mental care and protection in prison might be more appropriate than the satisfying imagining of vengeance wreaked by just throwing them in with mobs of sociopaths in general population.
Not that I don't have my own fantasies of hard life in prison for THOSE WHO SYSTEMATICALLY WEAPONIZED THIS WEAK-MINDED CREEP AND TURNED HIM ON SOCIETY.
Never to forget in our anger that we and the tRumpists are all targeted for defeat by the same power blocs.
We're all The People whose power must be destroyed.

(58,785 posts)RW authoritarian ruling class.
There have been blatant indications since the 1980s that RW powers realize they must eliminate democracy to eliminate our power to stop, and eventually destroy them. Fascistic and totalitarian types want to eliminate all the liberal norms our culture's based on, including our grossly inflated expectations of individual rights and freedoms, very unsuited to the needs of authoritarian states.
Discontented people will let go easily, even insist on having taken away, what they're too thoughtless to value or imagine being without. Until it's too late. So first sow the discontent, feelings of victimhood, grievance, helplessness, fear -- and new awareness that everything's wrong and nothing worth saving.
Fortunately for humanity, only some soak that loser crap up.
