Even if they were unarmed and "hanging around", police are bound to come and tell them to move along or even search them for drugs or weapons. It happens in the inner city all the time. If they were armed, it is possible they might even get shot.

If the AZ Democrats had any sort of functional party apparatus, I think it would be cool if they organized diverse groups of people to go have impromptu "block parties" surrounding the GOP ballot box watchers. They could have Tejano music, Mexican food, the whole works. It might serve two purposes: 1) It would probably run off the GOP thugs, and 2) It would create a welcoming atmosphere for voters to come drop off their ballots. The "partiers" would have to be careful not to violate any noise ordinances or elections laws regarding electioneering at the drop box, because the Maricopa Sheriff's office would probably love to arrest a bunch of Democrats.
