Vince Dooley passed away yesterday. He was Herschel's coach and probably the most important figure in Georgia athletics history, and recorded a campaign commercial for Walker this fall.
I was a 13 year old in 1980 when the Dawgs won a national championship. I absolutely worshipped the ground that Walker and Dooley walked on. I lost all respect for Herschel over the years as I heard of his domestic abuse, but I still respected Dooley right up to the point where he stumped for Trump in 2016. He tarnished his reputation with me at that point - it was like a knife to the heart. I haven't felt the same about him since. But anyone who is Republican or independent in Georgia who's been a UGA fan? They will go to the polls and vote for Walker as a tribute to Dooley.
I hope this isn't the case, but I think this happening so close to the election will throw it to Walker.

(4,446 posts)Enamored of Dooley doesn't mean enamored of Walker. I've been a Georgia fan for over 40 years and I know the room.

I don't presume to understand Georgia politics. But I get Georgia football. And what you are saying makes sense and it is worrisome.
I'm going to remain optimistic that the character of Gabriel Warnock brings him victory in the end.
