Note that the dimwit who attacked Nancy Pelosi's husband
was willing to risk spending the rest of his life in prison without even checking to see if she was in California at the time. These are the idiots we are dealing with.

1. THIS time we're dealing with an idiot, perhaps one with
mental health issues, but on the other hand what does that even mean anymore.
There are a LOT of well-trained, well-armed, reasonably sophisticated (when it comes to info gathering, co-ordination, tactics, etc.) out there who are stricken with the MAGA disease. THOSE are the ones who threaten our democracy. |

2. Everyone knows Speaker Pelosi uses a teleporter to cut the commute time home to seconds.
.
Teleporters. Everything I think of them it reminds me of this: I have a teleporter you know. . . . |

3. He was not acting alone--this is an example of stochastic terrorism. The intent was to assassinate
…the Speaker of the House, 2nd in line to the presidency — but failing that, to terrorize her and her family and every other Democratic candidate and office holder in the country.
So, dimwitted he may be, but the 1/6 insurrection still lives and still spreads its poison. |

7. He was going to tie Paul Pelosi up....
and wait for Nancy to get home. 🙄
He must have known it was Nancy's night to sacrifice virgins and drink their blood. I don't know how long he was willing to wait. Sometimes those soirees can run a week or so, what with the lack of virgins in the San Francisco area. Face it: these people will believe anything as long as it's written by a "connected" Qanon believer. He probably would have waited a week, as long as there were no questions concerning Mr. Pelosi. You're correct, Hecate. He succeeded in several ways. He has every Democratic politician - and their families - terrified that this could happen to them. The higher their Democratic bona fides, the better the chances of something like this happening to them. Violence is the Trumpanista's fall-back position. |

4. Targeting a Dem politician's family members is more terrifying.
"Nice family you have there, wouldn't want anything to happen to them."

5. As second in line for the POTUS. Isn't she and her family entitled to SS protection. Or at least
Capital Police. If not, hire private bodyguards.

9. Should have at least a couple of armed guards on duty 24/7
Anyone trespassing should be shot on sight; no questions asked

10. The Secret Service is authorized to protect her since she's in the line of succession.
However, that protection would attach to her rather than her family members or her home. As a general rule, members of Congress are protected by the Capitol Police while in DC but only have whatever protection they arrange for themselves when elsewhere. Congressional leadership (Speaker, Senate majority/minority leaders, etc.) also have security details through the Capitol Police that stays with them, but wouldn't cover family members or homes.

11. Only the office-holder, not her family. Her security travels wherever she goes, & she wasn't there
The Pelosis can probably afford personal security if they must — but an awful lot of Congressional Representatives started with modest means. AOC isn’t wealthy. My local reps aren’t.
It’s a horrible dilemma when politics in a democratic country starts to be more like a banana republic, with coups and political assassinations. The GOPers and Trumpistas have made it so people all the way down to the volunteer level feel the bullying and threats. I have 3 lady-friends in their retirement years who volunteered as poll-workers for years and years. Then came Trump and his bully-boys — big guys with hostile vibes just walked in to where people were voting and hung over my friends’ shoulders to “observe” the signatures in the poll-book. The first year Trumpistas did that was the last year any of the 3 volunteered. |

12. The Pelosis are wealthy
And have been for a very long time. In the 40s, my husband's grandparents lived on the same street as Mr. Pelosi's parents, belonged to the same church and were active in the same social organizations. Their kids went to the same tres-exclusive (and expensive) private schools. Mr Genki's grandparents moved to the burbs south of SF in the late 50s, but maintained contact with the elder Pelosis for the rest of their lives.
Few of us could afford to live where they did or afford the schools their kids attended. Then or now. Also: Nancy's father was a Congressman and mayor of Baltimore. Before running for office, he was a successful businessman (insurance and real estate). Like her future husband, Nancy lived in the best neighborhoods, and went to the same kind of private schools that only the wealthy could afford. When one of her brothers got married in 1952 (Nancy would have been 12), over 5000 guests were in attendance. You don't have 5000 guests at a wedding if you're poor. You just don't. So, yes, they could afford their own security, but even the best security systems can be breached if even one thing is forgotten--alarm not set, door not locked after letting in a pet, and so on. |

That doesn't matter to you. He knew where her home was - and made an active choice to move at that time, on that day.
