(37,182 posts)Of course, they abused the common person as well as and committed horrific atrocities. The problem with today's fascist leaders is that they're okay with abusing the citizenry, but they're not okay with using the power of the state to help the common man.
Look at Hungary's Viktor Orban, hero of America's right wing, who's every bit as Fascist as Trump or Bolsonaro, maybe even more so. Orban is very pro family but unlike the American right wing, he's willing to pour money into the nation's resources to increase family size. That's something that Republicans would never, ever do.

(23,826 posts)Here's where they are with their thought process and it's terrifying. They don't consider the 51% of their fellow Brazilians to have equal standing as them. Either they view them as not real Brazilians, or not real humans.
And that's what you're seeing in the US too. The 81 Million Americans who voted for Biden don't matter one bit to Republicans, they don't care about their rights, their wants, or their citizenship. And the media seems to rarely acknowledge them either.
Both countries are on the cusp of fascism. More than anything, what Democracy takes to survive, is the acknowledgement of the other side as viable and real.

They have been careening around the planet bolstering fascism for the wealthy for a long time and really ramped it up during the 45 admin since they were given carte blanche to do so and with gov't help and cover.

(9,936 posts)A very SAD Steve Bannon sees Bolsanaro taking the same "rigged election" route as TFG, a strategy that Bannon predicted in advance of the 2020 election results. The hostility to democracy is tangible here. Ends always justify means, when it comes to keeping authoritarians in power.
