abortion rights.
There was an outpouring of support initially when SCOTUS made their decision - but that enthusiasm seems to have lost steam. I'm wondering why the women of this country haven't kept up their momentum?

(11,098 posts)To get out the vote. That would be far more impactful than any large march or public media events imho.

(1,766 posts)Just like marching in massive numbers did exactly zero to stop the Iraq War. Or to get any meaningful change on racial equality and police brutality back in 2020.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

(12,717 posts)Apparently women are more concerned about inflation and high gas prices than the loss of their reproductive rights.

(46,155 posts)Well see what happens on Election Day.

(11,098 posts)Because everybody who is concerned about the economy blames Biden for it and not enough people care about abortion to vote on it.
Except, reality speaks differently. Between abortion and the economy, abortion is still a decent second place to the economy when only the two are considered. Also, not everybody who sees the economy as the main issue blames Biden for it. Second, nearly every voter who sees abortion as more important than the economy WILL blame Republicans for it! (They ran on it every election, after all)

(18,359 posts)the needed reproductive services even with the challenges thrown out. Camping in a friendly state seems to be happening.
There will probably only be overwhelming pressure when the wives, daughters and mistresses of prominent Republicans actually get denied reproductive care.

(26,956 posts)number will only rise. States where it's still legal did see an increase, but not enough to offset the decrease in states where restrictions went into effect.

(39,086 posts)are already Democrats but they better vote.
70% of women are pro-choice. That means that almost half of Republican women are for abortion rights.

(26,956 posts)and getting people involved in campaigns, whether electoral or through direct action/aid. After a march, a person who is activated might get involved with a local party or candidate, or volunteer at a clinic, or any number of things. Sustained marches are messy and take a lot of effort for not a lot of payoff.

(1,204 posts)so I should be out there just as much as women should. I think we are all exhausted, and of course it's getting cold outside, and I think a lot of us are just waiting to see how it goes next week. If a national abortion ban takes place, you can bet there will be protests, boycotts, all sorts of things, and it will be everyone's problem, not just women.

(26,507 posts)too late.
If a national abortion ban takes place - even if there will be protests, boycotts and - as you say - all sorts of things - we've lost our window to an election in the future.
I say keep the fire burning now - so next week we won't be kicking ourselves.
And I'm not blaming women here. This is a responsibility for all Americans. GOTV!!!!

(34,302 posts)We have 1.2 million voters in my county.
If 10,000 march, that's only 1% of the voters.
People who march have likely already voted etc.
But it's only a very small subset.

(46,059 posts)Lots more early voting than in previous cycles. Lots more women registered to vote.
The women in my red county have kept up the momentum. We've had Women's Rights rallies several times in the last month.

(3,067 posts)how vindictive and vicious repugnantcans can be. With a march, all those same low life lizards need is some face recognition software and a camera to make anyones life a living hell. The voting booth does not allow that potential problem to occur.
Screaming in the streets is great, I wish it was nonstop near a few political bastards residences, a few SCOTUS scumbags residences, and 24/ 7 in front of fox news.

5 MAGATs in a parking lot get nationwide coverage and are called a "movement".
Thousands of women might get a mention on the local news. Maybe, if it's a slow news day.
So, we vote because it's all we can do.

(35,075 posts)Maybe because they think it won't affect them either way. They're unable to see the big picture. They're unable to see how those laws make ALL women second and third class citizens. If a woman anywhere can be forcibly probed and or thrown into jail over something they did with their own body (to a clump of cells the size of a pea), where do we stand in this society? But, you can't force or beg people to have common sense. It's really quite sad.

why march when you can vote, use your energy for GOTV.
