They had an insider on SCOTUS: Legal experts stunned by bombshell Clarence Thomas was seen as key by Trump lawyers
By David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement
Published November 02, 2022
A Washington Post bombshell revealing Trump attorneys saw Justice Clarence Thomas as the key to getting the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the 2020 election is leaving several legal experts stunned.
The Post reports eight emails "ordered released by U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of California, include correspondence between Trump lawyers Kenneth Chesebro, John Eastman and others discussing various legal strategies to convince Republican members of Congress to object to the official certification of electoral votes in a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021."
In one email "from Chesebro to Eastman and several others sent on Dec. 31, 2020, Chesebro argued that [U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence] Thomas would 'end up being key' to asking the high court to overturn then-President-elect Joe Bidens win in contested states."

(82,849 posts)By what? The sun coming up in the east? Days getting colder as the calendar flips to November? The wetness of water? No, nothing quite so arcane. These self-styled geniuses have been stunned to find out that Republican operatives have a direct pipeline to their favorite pet justices on the Supreme Court. As these legal experts emerge from their long hibernation, squinty eyes blinking tearily in the light of day, they are stunned - stunned, I tell you! - to find that conservatives have packed the Supreme Court so deftly that they now regularly petition the Nine Wise Souls for legal opinions to their liking.
Stunning.
yep.
Does "STUNNED" work any better?

(81,351 posts)It is part of the new post truth era. Where the GOP controls perceived reality.
When disturbing truths do emerge every one acts surprised, even though the facts have been out there all along.
So the public thinks it is one off, or outrageous, instead of in truth just a small part in a carefully orchestrated
destruction of US democracy.

Yes, "legal experts" are all just frozen statues of themselves at this pretty mundane fact.

Agreements were made between police, security services, Secret Service, members of the house and senate (Here, Pense idn't play along, so, tfg tried to coerce him) , and the slimeball amateur militia/hate groups and of course, the lame duck president.
But the one person tfg needed was Clarence Thomas. He needs to be impeached, and arrested, along with his wife.

Clarence Thomas at Bohemian Grove...
Justice Thomas reported a wealth of gifts
In the last six years he has accepted free items valued at $42,200, the most on the high court.
December 31, 2004|Richard A. Serrano and David G. Savage | Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has accepted tens of thousands of dollars worth of gifts since joining the high court, including $1,200 worth of tires, valuable historical items and a $5,000 personal check to help pay a relative's education expenses.
SNIP...
He also took a free trip aboard a private jet to the exclusive Bohemian Grove club in Northern California -- arranged by a wealthy Texas real estate investor who helped run an advocacy group that filed briefs with the Supreme Court.
Those and other gifts were disclosed by Thomas under a 1978 federal ethics law that requires high-ranking government officials, including the nine Supreme Court justices, to file a report each year that lists gifts, money and other items they have received.
Thomas has reported accepting much more valuable gifts than his Supreme Court colleagues over the last six years, according to their disclosure forms on file at the court.
