Who says a "Woke Navy" with women is soft?

https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2022/11/03/chief-select-gives-birth-chiefs-mess-pins-her-at-the-hospital/

The day after giving birth, she gets dressed in uniform, gets up, gets pinned, and then slow matches down a hospital ward pushing her newborn in bassinet saluting all the way. Without help.

And of course, she's going to be standing around for a good half-hour afterwards getting congratulations and chit-chats. All while being expected to act like a Chief.

That's a level of hardcore most people can't do.

They assumed she would be pushed in a wheelchair.

She was walking unaided and pushed her baby in a bassinet as well.

LOL

A strategic trip to Servmart could get turned over a few times and yield a case or two or three or ten of steaks.

Living well on the USS Pandemus, ARL18.

Did time with two squadrons. I’m a little younger then you shipmate. But we’ve kept the canoe club going for almost 250 years. Good on us.

I knew some people who were in on the Forrestal flight deck inferno.

May they RIP.

ETA: But I should add ... Chief Reyes has my respect and admiration. I couldn't do that. Also, it often occurred to me that eighteen hour days of controlled chaos was much better compared to the ground pounders who were out in the field for weeks at a time. Exposed to life threatening situations every minute.

Fair winds and following seas, Chief Reyes!

May she and her family always find a friendly port in the storm and find safe anchorage.

...women are gonna take that to new levels.

Men who think women are "soft" have NO idea what women are used to surviving, overcoming, and thriving in spite of.

And women are gonna bring that to their work.

Sorry, sailor, you're upset you didn't get your bump in the first round of promotions? Your Chief had a whole glass ceiling to get through, maternity leave, and hours of labor waiting for hers. Now tell me again how tough it is waiting for yours? Yeah, I thought so. You have something to polish, sailor. Polish it REALLY well.

amusedly,
Bright

I worked for a female master chief aviation machinists mate in 1974. Awesome experience. very professional. No nonsense. Fair. I recall the other Chiefs in the squadron steered clear of her most of the time.

most women get up and walk pretty soon after having a baby. And when we have a second or third one, we take care of the older kids, as well as the new baby.

And some of us do this after a C-section.

Most men could not possibly do this.

After.

She had 12 and delivered dozens more as a mid wife all without electricity.

There is a famous saying in Thai that captures your point:

"Thailand has some the best farmers in the world and some times their husbands help".

With a stay-at-home husband. She was stellar. A fantastic tech and still managed to work in two pregnancies without a hitch in her career. Nothing soft about her at all.

What the new GOP doesn’t understand is, we don’t need to demonstrate our strength. We show it through action.

Also, we aren’t strong because of firepower. Our armed forces are strong because of a combination of soft and hard power.

The GQP’s obsession with a “manly” military is bizarre. Look what a similar obsession did to Russian armed forces.
