Per ESPN. For myself I will say all forms of bigotry are an affront against God.

News Alert: Nets suspend Kyrie Irving after his tweet about a film criticized as antisemitic
The Brooklyn Nets announced the suspension of Kyrie Irving, saying in a statement, he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets. We have decided that Kyrie will serve a suspension without pay until he satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct and the suspension period served is no less than five games.

(73,557 posts)He thought he could PR their way out of this.
Then, Irving doubled down, played victim, refused to apologize, then wouldn't even return the owner's calls.
I don't think this decision was based on enlightened thinking. They had no choice.
The sports media is on fire over this. It wasn't just going to go away.

(9,305 posts)Did dumbass Irving go out and say something stupid and double down or something? Because after antisemitic comments a few days ago, they made it sound like they weren't going to take action against him. Any idea for the change in stance? I've been out all day so I'm out of the loop...
EDIT: Never mind, I found another post talking about how Irving refused to disavow his previous comments. What a fucking moron. The Nets should try to look for a trade or look for their ability to get out from under his contract because he almost assuredly will say something stupid between now and the end of the season -- hell, most likely between now and the time his suspension ends.

(6,012 posts)Kyrie Irving is obviously attracted to conspiracy theories and other such nonsense: from believing the earth to be flat, to being an anti-vaxxer to his latest liking of a conspiracy-laden film on social media that contained antisemetic among other disturbing material, his behavior shows he is attracted to controversial ideas.
He seems to believe himself to be the smartest person in the room, and therefore can not err or do wring. Hence, he basically never apologizes, which is causing him serious problems. However, just like the bank robber who thought himself invisible after covering himself with invisible ink (lemon juice), Kyrie Irving does not really understand much of what he is talking about, especially the implications of his opinions. Given his power as a celebrity via being a sports star, he is dangerous. One can easily see him becoming the next Herschel Walker in politics.
Irving is a classic example of all that is wrong with social media.

because Kyrie Irving isn't the only guilty party.
If he thought he could "get over" by posting the link to the movie WITHOUT comment, then it's wonderful that Irving got called on it. However, because the Nets/NBA have not also called out the creators of the movie by name, or criticized Amazon for selling it, Irving did "score" a couple of cancel culture victim points.
Irving has since issued a more apologetic statement:
I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary.
I want to clarify any confusion on where I stand fighting against Anti- semticism by apologizing for posting the documentary without context and a factual explanation outlining the specific beliefs in the Documentary I agreed with and disagreed with.
I had no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust or perpetuate any hate. I am learning from this unfortunate event and hope we can find understanding between us all. I am no different than any other human being. I am a seeker of truth and knowledge, and I know who I Am.
Well, if Kyrie Irving wrote that, then I wrote the Talmud (and no wisecracks about my being old enough).
